Colonies in peace negotiations

In my present game as England I was at war with Spain. Quite easily I captured a their colony on Jamaica and on Martinique. Unfortunately my assault on the province of Tortuga failed.

So, I decided to offer peace, but to my big surprise the capture of those 2 colonies didn't give me any stars. Surely that must be a bug? How else can I capture colonies from Spain?

As far as my knowledge of colonial wars is, you have to conquer some of your enemies cities, if they aren't cities, well, then they don't count as anything in the negotiations.

yep i agree as long as they don't have a population of 700+ they don't provide any stars.

Whatfor anyway....no troops (mostly) no fortification...you just 'move' in

You can also get stars by defeating armies and fleets, which can be very useful to gain that extra edge in the negotiations.
