Combat resolution, help me understand

My questions are about eic and pirate bay.

here is the first senario: you are running as you are out matched. the ai player gives up pursuit. the game says you lost. so if my understanding is correct any surrendered ships, you lose and in pirate bay your game is over. correct?

Second senario: you are chasing a running opponent. they are faster and you can't damage them enough to slow them down. you get a pop up that states they are running and asked if you want to continue pursuit. if yes, battle continues forever as you can't catch them. if no, battle ends. is that a loss? in pirate bay is you game over? who gets surrendered ships? how can you end the battle and not lose if you can't catch them?

1. Yes, you lose and all surrendered/boarded ships are gone. I don't know about Pirate Bay but that's the case in the game itself.

2. If you give up pursuit you still win the battle, get experience, boarded/surrendered ships and all the loot on them. No idea about Pirate Bay though.

Anyone know about pirate bay. I have lost because I gave up pursuit or fled and that doesn't make sense to me as my pirate and his frigate are still alive and floating.
