As this is not a bug, but the information might still help people suffering from crashes, I thought I'll make the info available. This is because for some reason my not-so-state-of art system (1.8 GHz, 512 RAM) seems to be much more stabile compared to some others, especially in MP.
At times there are lots of combats, lots of movement and lots of events going on. Events and animations eat up resources, and you might get several sound-effects at the same time.
Personally I have on my system turned off the music, i.e. I made the music.txt (in the music folder) empty. As I often play when wife and kids are at sleep I have also changed most files in the sfx/wave folder to soft clicks (with a file that is 2.76 kb), only leaving the important files with distungished sounds, like the combat sounds (but I've changed them too, so they total 1.77 MB). In all my sfx/wave folder is 2.65 MB, compared to the 27 MB of the "vanilla" set-up, of which the combat-sounds alone are 12 MB.
Yesterday evening I copied my edited sfx folder to kids computer (800 MHz, 384 RAM) after I had had two crashes in 1 hour (kids where playing on my computer). I then continued playing CK for four hours without crashes.
So, I believe there might be lack of resources on some computers at times when there are lots of combat and events happening. Simply by some small edits in the sounds you'll get a more stabile playing experience, altough of course the sounds won't be as pleasing then.
