Obviously the Austrian AI has to be beefed up, or their techs need to be given a bonus.

Why does Germany declare war on Belgium instead of asking for military access? Didnt they ask in 1914 only to be rejected? If they did then they wouldnt have to face Belgium armies on their western front, meaning fewer troops in France and more troops to attack the Russians?

The Russians shouldnt be on a stalemate on the Austrian front, especially if Austria is busy deploying divisions to crush Serbia....something like a Brusilov should happen in my opinion....and if that happens there is no doubt Austria will fall with the combined might of Italy, Serbia and Russia.

As far as I know there's no 'ask for military access' command. :)

Therefore you simply have to assume that Germany asked, Belgium automatically denied and Germany declared war.

I think the AIs are set to 'default' - so countries take a somewhat pragmatic, perhaps generic attitude to their fronts.

You can grant MA with events, though. So, the France/Germany war event could trigger a Belgian event "Germany asks for military access", with the default action being "Never!", triggering a german DOW, and the b option would grant access. Thereby screwing up the whole "Britain defends poor little Belgium", but that was a possibility.

The main reason for the complete stalemate is probably that no countries have been given any techs so far, right? That's why Serbia can beat Austia-Hungary, and that's why Germany can't advance on any front.

I think so - although another possible reason might be: doesn't the AI have a trigger line where it needs odds above a certain level before launching an attack? If all countries have roughly equal forces along their borders, perhaps they simply have never crossed this threshhold.

Heh, cool, the first beta AAR for Victoria is in the 1914 scenario. Real competition. :)

hmm why is Astria-Hungary blue? The HOI colour suits well but that just a minor..very minor thing.

Does the trench war realy work? Serbia had a easy time going forward and as you said, no attacks on the german fronts...

Austria-Hungary is blue because we couldn't be bothered to change it - it'll be brown soon anyway.

How warfare will develop after the assignment of technology benefits remains to be seen.

Perhaps our nurse friend can take out the two above comments (including my own) and put them in the 'comments on Stephen's AAR' thread.

Thanks SykoNurse. Much appreciated.

Stephen, you might want to include a link to this thread at the end of each one of your AAR updates. It just might encourage posters to come to this thread.

I especially like the Russian army managing to walk across the Austro-Hungarian empire to reach Serbian lines. The Dual Monarchy must have some shoddy military police if they didn't notice that happening. :D
