If you want to continue with the Tutorial, this is how you should explore:
- Remember that ship attrition is totally eliminated in port.
- Use shift-clicks to send ONE ship to explore ONE sea lane (two is risky) and then send it back to the nearest port. The odds of the one ship sinking during this time is remote unless the sea lane is very far away from the port. To explore faster, use a number of one ship fleets to explore different zones. Since you did shift clicks, you can the fleets leave them alone until they return and then send them out again.
- Once you have explored a good distance from your ports (you will need to do this if your ships start sinking from attrition while exploring), establish new forward COASTAL colonies near areas you would want to explore. This will create new ports that can be used to explore from. Good locations for finding Catalonia would be Cornwall and a province on the western coast of France. After that, you will need to establish a couple of colonies on the Iberian coast and some in the Med (there are lots of islands for that purpose).
