As posted on the Steam Discussion hub as well:

I have been scouring the internet for a solution for the better part of 8 hours now.

I was able to play fine earlier the afternoon, then after I installed a modification - it happened. Removed the mod, clean install, deleted everything, tried everthing.

What happens is this:
I choose to play.
Launcher comes up.
Start the game.
Black screen.
Mouse symbol becomes a loading icon.
Hear the music for a brief second.
Crash to desktop, no error, no nothing.

I'd post my debug.txt, but the last lines are these:

Waited for prerender group to finish for 0.000000 seconds
Waited for prerender group to finish for 0.000000 seconds
Warning: mipmaps requested for non-power-of-two image (391x403), will break on OpenGL ES
Warning: mipmaps requested for non-power-of-two image (377x351), will break on OpenGL ES
Loading page 0 of bitmap font data/fonts/catalogue.fnt.

Does anyone have some information I'm somehow missing, or should I just truly give up on playing this?

EDIT:
Safe mode allows it to boot up and play the music in full. Black screen though. Clicking produces the loading icon, and crashes the game.

UPDATE:

It seems to be a 0xC0000005 error.

"The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access".

UPDATE 2:

Safe Mode allows me to play after disabling the Discord overlay. Main game is non-functional.

UPDATE 3:

Legacy 32 mode allows me to play after some waiting and praying.

Anyone know how to fix this?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please generate the problem again, then send in the game log C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Introversion\Prison Architect\debug.txt

To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.
