game just keeps crashing! never had this before. Any ideas?

Any mods in use?

Does it always crash at the same spot in this campaign? Or you can reload and carry on, until another crash elsewhere perhaps?

hi there! Thank you for replying so quickly - this is a completely fresh install of ck3! No mods. I was trying for a while to isntall ck3 on my D: drive, but ended up giving up as I couldn't get it to work.

Now it is all on my C: drive.

I've noticed that there seems to be a common error around the time Genghis Khan turns up on my 8xxad starts, where the game box title is just a comma, and the crashes I've been having happen aroun d there.

Because I always play ironman, I couldn't go back and check save files unfortunately, at least without some wizardry.

RE: this current save file, it is happening exactly after one month, which I think is when the game tries to save itself? Is it possible my C: drive is running out of storage? That was the exact reason I was trying to move to the D: Drive. Attached are my logs, which I hope are helpful.

Thank you!

There's no particular reason why the game wouldn't run from D: as well as it does on C: , that's where I have it for instance. What actual problem happened then?

When you say a fresh install, has it ever run on this PC before? Because if so the files under your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III/ folder will still be there from the previous installation, unless you also manually deleted those.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.
IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , exceptions.txt

Hello!

With trying to install the game on D: I tried a lot of different things, but couldn't get the launcher to identify the files correctly! I tried a few of the solutions on this forum, like changing where the launcher looks for the game files, but kept getting errors on startup for the launcher, so I wiped everything and did a fresh install. (Worth mentioning I deleted the Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III/ folder when I did the fresh install on C:, as it has run on this PC before.) If you have insight on how to install on D:, I might open another ticket and go through that with you once I finish this Armenia playthrough!

I've just tried this out, and it's crashed once again! It seems to be crashing at any point between September and December, where I'm picking back up from August. I'm now also getting the notification on startup: Access Error to Game Data. My Steam.exe, paradox launcher.exe and ck3.exe are all already firewall exempted.

Attached are the requested files. Thank you again.

That error is nothing to do with firewalls, as they only govern external communications.

What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

ck3.exe (in the Steam CK3/binaries folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3/launcher folder)
C:/users/{username}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2025.6/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/{username}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, Right click on Documents in the left column of File Explorer, just under This PC there. Go to properties, location. What does it say there?
