I am playing an unmodded CK2 with all of the DLC. I had played without error for many hours since I bought this game on Christmas, and now suddenly, every time I try to save, or the game autosaves, I get CTD. I am at my wit's end, and have found zero useful information on the internet about this. Help would be appreciated, as I deeply enjoy this game otherwise, and blew a good amount of money on it and all the DLC for the full experience.

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Hopefully this is what you need, thanks for the prompt reply. I'd desperately like to recover this save, so whatever you can do is appreciated.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.

I was expecting to see 32bit Windows, where this is a known problem. But I have no real explanation for it happening on your system.

Is this just happening in one particular saves game? Or with any new CK2 game you start too?

Does it matter if you are saving locally or to the Steam cloud? Compressed or not?

You don't get any such issues with Stellaris?

You may as well update that video driver
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

What antivirus app do you use? Add steam.exe and ck2game.exe to its Exceptions list.

There we go. And it appears to be this save in particular, I can save through the December the save begins, then when it hits January it crashes, every save, every time. I save locally, nothing on cloud, and never had any issues with Stellaris saves like this.

Edit: Tried jacking with my antivirus, no luck, still CTDs.

Please change that settings.txt as follows:

refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

If that doesn't help I can only assume this is a bug or glitch in that particular save game. You could attach the save here if you wanted me to test it too.

Aye, I implemented as you said in settings, am gonna test it now. Until then, here's the save. Thanks again for the speedy help.

Edit: No luck, no change, still CTD on the January autosave, and whenever I try to save past December 31st. I guess its the save, but I have no clue as to what ruined this one out of all of them.

Interestingly I only saw that problem on autosave, I could manually save OK.

Anyway I've now logged a new bug report on the problem, and attached your save.

Generally speaking such issues would be fixed in the next 1 or 2 patches. Please just put this save aside and try it as new patches come out next year.

All the best and sorry for that problem!

Yeah it saves perfectly normally till December ends, then nothing works, its maddening as this is a beloved save. But again thanks for the effort, I'll try it again whenever the new patch comes out.
