Dear Console Players,
We wanted to update you on the console release schedule. Unfortunately, we have not yet met the stability and performance targets we set for the console release. Without a Release Candidate (RC), we are now unable to meet an October release window.

While we are making slow but steady progress, there are still unresolved issues impacting the game in ways that harm the player experience we want to deliver. We expect to receive a new RC, which will undergo a thorough review in August. This evaluation will determine whether we can begin the submission process and provide a solid release date, or if further issues need to be addressed.

We understand this is disappointing, and it’s not what we had hoped for either. However, we are committed to keeping you informed throughout this development process, even if the updates aren’t always what we’d like.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Although I'm throughly impressed with the PC updates in recent months, a full year delay is unacceptable and it sounds like a change in leadership is in order.
Right, let’s do a change of leadership from the folks who helmed Cities: Skylines I and have been working on Cities: Skylines II for years to someone brand new. Certainly the new people will know how to do this and won’t cause chaos in an existing and well-formed team environment.

Performance targets are tricky, especially since the game missed a bit with the initial PC release. I understand they want to be cautious and not ship a game that’s not going to be an acceptable quality to console players this time around.

Although the console delay probably means Mac players (me) will keep on waiting…

Thanks for the update! I have a few questions about modding on the console. You stated earlier that we will probably be able to access maps via Paradox Mods, but what about custom assets and code modding? I think both are impossible on console and if that's the case will you be doing updates to implement some assets or mods. I think especially here at the detailers patches that implemented some mechanism inspired by mods (surfaces, tree growth, ...) and could be extremely useful if you continue on this note for the future especially for QoL tools

Sad to hear that, but thanks for being transparent about it. Painting a clear picture is the way to go, even if it means posting disappointing news. (That would otherwise be posted later anyway)

I appreciate the transparency, and I’m fully cognisant that we all don’t want a repeat of the PC launch, so thank you for taking your time to get it right.

Both custom maps, as well as custom assets, are planned to be available on console via Paradox Mods, sadly due to limitations code mods will not be available.

A shame to hear, but understandable. Thanks for the update!

Can I ask if its known, will the xbox and pc versions have shared saves? Like if I start on PC now, when I get the console version will I need to start fresh or could I load my saves?

Thank you for the update. As a console player this is disappointing. While it is encouraging that you will continue to make progress through slowly. I hope your continued efforts result in a console version of the game. I however am done waiting for console and recently was able to get a PC capable of running CS2. I am quite enjoying the game and look forward to the release of assets later this year. Thank you. I really do hope you reach you goal for console. The recent changes and additions to the base game will be great for console players once it gets there.

Alright then you lead the team. See how much time and effort devs put into games like this. Cities skylines 2 is a massive game with no doubt over 1 million lines of code. This isn't a hockey team or a corporate job, 1 mistake or setback doesn't mean a complete swap of upper management. If you want to play the console version now, I'd asure you that you would be complaining a lot morr

There's ways to play csII on Mac already.. I seen people play on it.

No one complains on PC when Rockstar or Sony delays or releases a game for PC 3-5 years later but when it is first on PC and then consoles, all hell brakes loose. My dudes, give it time, it will be here sooner or later.

And to add to the response from CO, it is not that CO doesn't want console players to have code mods, it is that Microsoft and Sony place severe restrictions on code modding for any game. They just won't allow it.

So console players will have to live without the splendors of Move It!, Anarchy, 529 tiles, Traffic, Extra Landscaping Tools, etc, etc, etc......

At least it's better than the CS1 situation where you had no custom maps or assets.

I'm told the Windows version runs almost perfectly using CrossOver.

A native Mac version will be a few years. And although I don't know the exact reason and how it all works, they let it slip one time that it has to do with the contracts they have made with Steam, Microsoft, Sony, and others which is not yet allowing them to release linux and mac versions for some time. Again, not sure how all of that works.... but if you want to play on your Mac, you can do so today.

CrossOver also works for many other Windows games.

Completely disagree with this. The team are doing all they can and are being transparent. If you have PC be grateful, other's like myself only have console. But I'm still more than happy to wait for a better experience instead getting a rushed version that will have loads of bugs.
