Hello Crusaders!

Today we're thrilled to release free Update 9 for Crusader Kings III: Console Edition, as well as the first major expansion to the game: Royal Court. You can find a non-exhaustive list of changes introduced with this update below.

The Royal Court is in session!

  • Kings and Emperors now have access to their own Royal Court. A fully realised 3D throne room that houses your ruler, their courtiers, family and vassals.
    • There are four distinct styles dependent on your culture, as well as variations depending on your court grandeur.
    • Grandeur is now an important part of the court. Increase it to reap large diplomatic benefits, unlock new Council Jobs, gain special Traits, and more. Just make sure to manage your courtiers’ expectations or they may revolt against you for not providing the right amenities.
    • There are four distinct categories of Amenities. Increasing their level will increase your grandeur and the happiness of your courtiers.
    • The type of court you have can change depending on your own cultural ethos. Each of these types will grant you benefits that scale alongside your grandeur.
    • Court Languages are now available. Choose which language should be spoken within your court. Either choose the language of a grander court, leeching off their grandeur to your own, or propagate the language you like and reap the benefits of having others adopt it.
    • Invite vassals and subjects to air their grievances in front of the throne. Increase your grandeur and gain different benefits as you arbitrate on various problems and challenges.
      • If you have a liege of your own, take the time to pay homages in gold to him, or petition for their help in all kinds of matters of state.
    • Court artifacts have been added to the game. Collect legendary artifacts and decorate your throne room with them to increase your grandeur and gain additional benefits.
    • Experience life at court with unique events that will take place within the walls of the throne room.
  • You can now inspire other characters to make new artifacts. Fund their great works of art and daring expeditions to gain artifacts from masterwork swords and opulent crowns to the Ark of the Covenant.
  • In addition, other Artifact related actions have been added to the game:
    • Commission an artifact (as long as you have an Antiquarian),
    • Challenge a Ruler for an Artifact you have a claim on.
    • Start a Scheme to steal an Artifact you have a claim on.
  • An Inventory system has been added to the game. Characters can now carry Artifacts on their person. Equip weapons, armour, regalia, headgear, and up to four trinkets.
    • The new Artifacts have durability and a history that confirms who has claim over them.
  • Royal court brings with it a plethora of new court positions, some of which only available when certain conditions are met. Hire a Personal Champion to protect you on your day to day or hire a Food Taster to make sure your food is up to standard.
  • New Council Tasks have been added to the game, like Promote Cultural Acceptance (Steward) and Manage Royal Guards (Marshal).
  • The culture system has been completely overhauled. They are now made up of several different components, making each and every one unique:
    • Acceptance: Cultures now have acceptance scores with all other cultures, which determines how well they get along.
    • Ethos represents the spirit of each culture. This determines the baseline of the cultural acceptance and which traditions are easier or harder to adopt.
    • Traditions give each culture a unique flair. Each has their own modifiers, changes to rules, interactions, and more.
  • On top of the new components, cultures can also be Hybridised, diverged and reformed.
    • Hybrid cultures are a melding of two cultures together, creating a new one with aspects of both. You can pick and choose between pillars and traditions to create something that will thrive.
    • Diverge culture to break away from your culture by selecting a new ethos and changing your traditions to fit your current situation.
    • Reform a culture by changing existing traditions, ethos, or pillars over a long period of time.
  • A new Dynasty Legacy Path has been added to the game: Customs. This path focuses on peaceful coexistence and the running of a prosperous multicultural realm.
  • New Portrait assets have been added to the Barbershop, such as the Iron crown of Lombardy, the Crown of Justinian and the Sassanid Crown.
  • Personal languages have been added to the game. Your ruler is now able to learn a number of languages outside their own. Knowing someone’s languages reduces any of their opinion penalties towards you.
  • New Men-At-Arms have been added to the game, like the Monaspa heavy cavalry, and the Nile Archers.
  • You can now change the name of your ruler. Pick from a list of names or give them your own original name.
  • New character animations have been added to the game.
  • You can now change the map colour of titles you are allowed to rename.
  • You can now pick the map colour of your new faith when you create a new one.

  • The Coat of Arms Designer has been added to the game. You can now design your very own Coat of Arms and apply it to your House, Dynasty, and/or Title. Adjust existing designs, create new ones from scratch, or randomise a design.

We hope you enjoy this latest update, and we're looking forward to hearing the stories you create across the Middle Ages!

UPDATE:
We have released a patch that aims to fix many of the issues encountered after the release of the Royal Court, in particular the one that prevented you from Holding the Court.

Fixed an issue where you are unable to “Hold Court” due to hidden events occuring.
Fixed an issue in the tutorial where you get stuck on the Court Artifact window.
Fixed an issue where incorrect exclamation marks appear on the Court Menu.
Fixed an issue where decisions or pop ups can cause the game to lose focus and navigation.
Fixed an issue in the UI where the Relatives box is misaligned in the character menu.
Fixed the position of the Artifact buttons.
Fixed an issue where the progress bar in the Marshal section jumps to the end when it is almost completed.

Umm , I found out that my saves aren't compatible I guess that's what reddit says, How do I play my game from yesterday without everyone dying or do I just need to make new games and all the old ones are lost forever?

Has anyone figured out how to open the coat of arms editor during the game?
Yeah, I've been hung up on the same thing. Unfortunately, the button (gold scroll and quill next to house, dynasty, and title names in their respective menus) is just not there for us on console. At least for the moment, we're stuck only being able to edit coats of arms before we start the game, which means no custom coats of arms for our custom kingdoms and/or empires, sadly.

I duplicated my post here, just in case. Thanks for understanding.
About bugs. I also write how it would be worth improving the interface and some points.

1) The left stick drifts very often, it does not depend on the gamepad, I tried it!
2) Adaptive triggers are buggy, do not allow you to navigate through the menu, it's easier to turn them off in settings!
3) I can't see which characters are talking to me in the throne room!
4) Now there is no gradation scale for the speed of the appearance of tooltips!
5) You can't turn off tutorial notifications. Now it looks like spam.
6) Many problems with translation into Russian. For example, in the start menu should say "Нажмите любую кнопкУ" instead of "Нажмите любую кнопкА".
7) There are also many inscriptions in the spirit of “Missing keys” ог "_name" instead of character name.
8) Absolutely not displayed, which gives the improvement of buildings!
9) Please make it possible to choose the cursor speed and increase the size of the army rally point! And raise her selection to the top so as not to scroll down 100500 times, or look for a very small icon on the map.
10) Achievement "Inheritance" not working normally on XBOX. Achievement "Not so feudal system" not working normally on PS5. Achievement "Seven Holy Sites" not working normally on PS5.
11) Many achievements don't work properly. Can't drop Platinum trophy or 1000G.

P.S.
Paradox and Lab42 I believe in you! Do it right!
Why such an attitude towards console players?! I have 3 copies of this game, on all platforms, but I want to play on consoles.
Love this game <3, but so many mistakes very frustrating mе, сause I gave a lot of money...
1 year of waiting and what we got?! I'll wait for a patch that fixes most of the problems. Now it's impossible to play it.
Thank you!

So the game is broken with the new update currently. Constant crashes and if you open your royal court it crashes totally. I have re installed the game and I have deleted all old saves. Still cannot even play the game.

I am currently playing the game right now, and it crashes every 10 mins. I’m playing as the new Polabia kingdom. Should be running all of my downloadable content do you think? I’ve done everything you did expect turning off northern lords and the Arab fashion DLC. I really I hope I don’t have to treat this game like Civ 6 when it comes to DLC by turning them off lol

Actually, this is a very good point. Paradox have to understand console players. Bugs and such are generally unacceptable on console, and if they are found, expected to be fixed asap. Console players expect well functioning games (almost to perfection).

It's futile to release new content if there are serious bugs in the game. First fix the bugs, then release new content.

To be honest, I think they did a real great job at making the interface work well for console, something which is generally very difficult with strategy games, but there are still a few things that could/should be improved.

I'm in the same camp as you. I really like Paradox for bringing console ports, and their games. But, they have to understand console players have higher standards, actually. This is why Paradox should freeze all kind of new release stuff on console and just focus on getting the game polished correctly. The interface is great, but a few polishes and it's perfect. Bugs are unacceptable, and the game needs to reach a very high standard on console (like Cities:Skylines). So they should just focus 100% on fixing any bugs they find and polish the game to a very high standard. Otherwise they misunderstand the market. You can't have a buggy game on consoles.

New releases makes me furious, when there are so many known bugs and problems that haven't been addressed. How can you even think about releasing new content without addressing those things? It's disrespectful and a show of not understanding the market.

I thought Paradox DID understand the console market (After playing Cities:Skylines), but perhaps I was wrong?

After such an update, I lost hope that the players are being heard. This situation reminds me Cyberpunk... In words, everything is beautiful, but we release it as it happened. It seems that only changing the developer of the console version can help.

From what I've read and gathered from talking to others experiencing it they still have constant issues due mainly to the update so until the Devs make a patch it's just unplayable. Mine is acting the same way cant got more than 10 minutes without a crash. I heard that unlinking and relinking your paradox account helps with the crashes so I'm gonna try that when I get home from work.

Especially since consoles are the same standard and PCs vary so greatly it seems like it would be easier to make a console game than a PC game.

That for sure is a factor. Perhaps one of the reasons the "standard" of games is higher in the first place. Less complex, easier to test etc etc.
Just like with development on Android and iPhone, where it is easier to do everything on the second one due to much less fragmentation of devices. In the case of consoles, there are only 2!!!

I only play on console actually, and when I buy games I expect well polished games, not beta testing standard games. Most games on console that I play are well polished, even day 1, with minimal issues, and some are better than others, even "perfect" day 1 games.

Not that PC players accept crap, but in my opinion, they are more patient and tolerant towards "problems". I myself was more tolerant towards those things when I played on PC. PC's have all kind of mods and such things as well, and it's much easier to cheat on PC, so I don't even like "cross-play" games, because you introduce "PC cheaters" into the game, where it otherwise is very difficult to cheat on console. And personally I don't like mods and such, it's basically a huge mess IMO, I like "vanilla" games, because they should generally work well and be well polished and "predictable" (in that mods don't introduce bugs etc).

I could be wrong, but I think most console players are like me in expecting well functioning games. But then again, they are willing to pay premium prices for games too. I think CK3 priced themselves right, if the game is well polished and works well. I paid less personally, because I had never played a CK game and didn't understand what it was exactly, and didn't know if I would like it or not.

I fully support. That's why we play on consoles. PC gaming hasn't appealed to me for a long time. I bought the game for the 3rd time on PS5 before the release of Royal Court, expecting an update to be released and all the flaws would be fixed. And as a result, we got a beta test.
