Constant GAME CRASH in january 1750 (or later)

1750 is quite late into the game. During the beta testing new patches were coming out daily (and sometime more than once a day). It is quite possible that no one actually played through until that date. Or, as you say, it may have been caused by one of the later beta patches :). As the game was released at very short notice (publishers command!)then if the fault was caused by a late beta patch it is quite possible that the testers never had time to play thro to 1750.
This is all conjecture. It is now fixed and that is the main thing :)
