Short summary of your issue Constant stutter every 1.5 second

Game Version 1.1.2

What OS are you playing on?
Windows

What platform are you using?
Steam

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Have you tried verifying your game files (Steam only)?
Yes

How much "pain" is this causing you?
10

Please explain the issue you experienced in the most condensed way possible

Every 1.5 second there is like a micro freeze, all animations skip, if you're moving camera, the camera jumps, pause/unpause commands do not get registered immediately at that moment.

This happens regardless if the game is paused or not. This problem has been getting progressively worse in my save game, in the beginning it was hardly noticeable, now it can be like .25s freeze . When I start a new game it does not happen.

My gpu/cpu rarely climb over 50% usage. The game and saves are on SSD.
Game version 1.1.2 but this had already started happening on 1.0

I went through master list of fixes but it did not have any effect.
I did a 'clean' re-install that's on the other threads but it had no effect.
Graphic settings have no effect.

Please explain how to reproduce the issue
I don't know how to reproduce the issue, I've heard the "animated characters" option makes it worse, try that?

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz (12 CPUs), ~3.7GHz

Video Card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080

RAM 16 GB

Operating System Windows 10

I have attached a save game
yes

I also tried vsync on/off with framerates - off, 60, 144. And windowed mode but it does not seem like it has any effect.
I also ran it on geforce now (it ran in the cloud) and it had the stutter

This is the video of it happening

I've seen problems like this if there are Windows updates constantly trying to apply and failing. If you manually run the Windows Updater app, does it fine a whole new Windows 10 version to apply - not a patch or update but a whole version?

If so I suggest you apply that, reboot, run it again, apply everything it finds then - keep doing that until fully up to date.

That aside I see you've supplied a save file - is that because it happens in that save and not others?

Also, i see you have Vsync off - what fps are you seeing in th egame? if it is excessively high that can be a problem , try setting it to Yes or capping FPS to say 60 in geForce Experience.

Hey, I just updated windows the the newest version '2004' (it shows that there are no more new updates).

The issue still persists, but It seems that this is related to frames, I tried running with VSYNC on and then with VSYNC off and different framerates. when I set the framerate limit to 30 fps, it happens less often, but still at a fixed interval of 3s~ (used a lap timer on my phone)

> I see you've supplied a save file - is that because it happens in that save and not others?

I only have this single ironman save. I attached it because my guess is that it might be related to the state my save is in, I've played from 837 to 1130, I can see most of the world and it's reaching 30k total characters. And the problem has been getting progressively worse throughout the game.

I don't believe that it's related to my pc, because I tested this save on GeForce NOW cloud gaming service and that also has the same problem.

Right, but it only happens with this save, is that right? If you start a new test game do you still see this?

I don't think this is a unique problem. The exact same is happening on my game.
The output of your testing is the same here; High end PC, fps + lag interval, windows updates, drivers, etc ... Same results.

Large empire (about 1/3rd of the map), ~1200 AD, high end PC.

I love the game, but the frustration is slowly outweighing the fun. :)

I see both of you are in games where one power has a huge area of the map, which I know from CK2 was a situation known to cause such problems, especially if a civil war or mass revolt broke out and the map was covered in troops.

I suggest you make a new post in the Bug Reports forum , and attach both saves there so QA and the devs can have them as excellent examples of what needs to be addressed in this area.

Thanks for your help so far!

Thanks for your help Andrew, I've made a post in bug reports with both of the save files and videos attached.

Leaving this here in case someone else with the issue finds it and wants to report it
