Started as the byzantines in 1066 with a custom character, successfully mended the schism in favour of orthodoxy, tried and failed to convert to hellenic, ended up switching to Catholicism to get those sweet sweet claims and crusades, which is working great as a crusade fired for italy the second id vassalized the pope. Now i rule the reformed roman empire and am slowly taking chunks out of the HRE failstate now known as the german empire.

Now i have the option of switching culture to roman. I did it in a test save, decided i liked greek better for two reasons. Firstly i like the cultural building more. Secondly and more importantly, most of my empire is ruled by greeks with greek culture slowly taking over EVERYWHERE. Safe to say i didnt play long before reloading to a pre-switch save.

But, i only thought of this now, if there are melting pot events and culture flip events a-la norman to english or Norse to Danish i feel like i probably should do it for role play reasons. I mean it makes sense that the new Imperator of the roman empire would consider themselves roman, not greek. Is there in fact events like this in place or are there any plans in place to put them in?

I just dont feel like i should have to strip all of my vassals titles away and replace them with roman cultured rulers. Aside from creating a BILLION new dynasty names like tes tes tes constantinople, which looks shit, it'd feel like i'd be breaking imersion in the name of role playing immersively, which isnt my style. Neither is spending 100's of hours educating children a solution as I'm commited to finishing this run before updating to the new dlc. It's going to take long enough as it is.

Wow that took longer than i thought it would, sorry.

Back in the day every greek considered themselves roman, so there is no point of having different culture as it would be different just in name.

A new group of events that will create a new Roman culture that is a bridge from middle age "greek" culture group to latin culture group. so that in reality a new roman-hellenistic culture will begin to dominate the empire.

How it would any different than from the greeks, apart from the name? I mean all roman stuff carried over to ERE, administrative stuff, customs and so on. Or you want so that there should be random roman ethnicity newborns? Or all the greeks just abandon their customs and keep the roman ones, cause we true roman now?

I'd suggest if possible just changing localisation of greeks to roman once roman empire is restored and maybe unlocking few more flavour events.

sounds good, who wants a fake "holy" roman empire headed by ugly ape-like barbarians from northern europe? haha...seriously, the face designer seems to hate the guys, I try to avoid marrying my progeny to germans, etc just so i dont get a grandson looking like a red-bearded chimpancee

Oh? For me it's the complete opposite; I literally pass good marriage offers coming from the ERE just because I don't like how their portraits look...

The roman culture is not alive in the roman middle age (byzantine) in the way of saying a culture is a gens thing. Yes the "greeks - byzantine" was the only roman culture left in the way that they were the heirs to rome and not ancient greeks. But a reconquest of the west in the early middle age would have started a flux of "latin group cultures" influence on the old "greek roman" culture. in that sense I think events could make this interesting as the "new west Roman culture" would rise as roman greek culture would to influence this new western culture. and the culture should be related in the same culture group.

they even stole the eagle, the thieves haha...in any case, the game does a great job in pointing out why these guys couldnt establish a new roman empire with a feuding barbarian culture, that is, you can't even expand to something about the size of modern day luxemburg without being forced to hand over titles to guys that then proceed to form a gang to backstab you and steal your titles
