Copy Protection Problem--EU2

I have tried all of the suggestions listed in the various forums about how to solve the copy protection problem for EU2. I have had this same problem with another game, EA's Sub Command. I was able to get Sub Command to run using a crack so I am very sure the the copy protection is the problem and not a video or sound incompatibility. I tried EU-2on a different computer, a much slower one, and the game started up fine. So I know the CD is not corrupted. I have a Toshiba CD-ROM. Once I try to start the game, the drive no longer sees the CD until I open the tray and then close it again so it will look at it. The game installs fine. I am running Win98 and have had no trouble with any other games other than the one previously mentioned. If anyone has any further suggestions, I am willing to try them.
 
some users said they needed to right-click on the screen with the mouse button to get the game start, or to press ESC. Try that.

If you have already tried the running problems thread, then try swapping CD-ROM between both machines.
 
Glad it is working now. Copy protection and certain CD-ROMs don't go along very well.
 
That'd be safedisc copy-protection, then, if it does the same thing than with EA games (who use it.)
A pity as such, I got two drives and neither one can cope with that particular copy protection scheme (a DVD and a CD-RW drive,actually). Not going to buy a game that dont work for me (tried and got burned with shogun warlords,emperor:battle for dune,etc.)

Sorta feels rather retarded to have to crack/patch your own games, particularly if you end up having to create your own safedisc unwrapper patch.
 
Actually, it's Sony Securom. I don't think it's better than Safedisc, it just works in a different way, and it's even harder to find compatible CD-ROM drives to read correctly to encrypted CDs. Pionneer CD drives have a good track, Thoshiba's usually won't work.

Even with your particular model, I doubt I could be 100% sure that it will be working.

You have two solutions: Either you wait for the European release in February/March wich might or might not have copy protection (EU 1 didn't have it) or you contact Securom and ask them if your particular brand/model/firmware cd/dvd will work with their copy protection system. My guess is they won't answer you, aside a generic reply "That our system works with 99.9% of the drives on the market" (yeah right! :rolleyes: ).
 
You could try to buy it from a store that offer refund in case the game is not working. That way, you won't lose anything, aside a few hours swearing at your computer if it doesn't work.
 
Thanks for the tip on the protection. Since it wasnt safedisc, I went and bought the game (at a hefty price of 400 FIM,67 euros,60$,etc.). Works mighty fine.:)
Looks like it's the US version. On the plus side for Paradox & co, the salesperson said they've had the game only for a couple days now and the sales are picking up pretty nicely despite the price, good move to get the game out before christmas.

So, at least in my case with CD/DVD drives which couldnt read safedisc the game works, a FYI for others concerned about the issue.

Yes, it's the US version, no other versions are out for now. Be sure to get patch 1.01, it's worth it. Patch 1.02 should be out just before Christmas.
