I was playing as Japan and taking my time attacking Guangi Clique so I was still at war with them when the Mongols won the Suiyuan campaign... The Unified Front was formed and I was at war with all of China in January 1937! Excellent!
So far all three attempts to play as Canada for a change has resulted in the same thing: CTD the very moment I let go of pause after I assign my research, and leaves no error log behind either. Then I booted up Australia, same thing happened, and eventually Germany, and broken record. Complete AoD and CORE re-installation later as per instructions same thing still happens. Any suggestions?
Just to add, I also tried non-moddir installation after manually altering all the necessary textfiles so it reads events and such correctly after another re-installation to no avail.

Mjarr, whatever your problems are, it is definitely not a CORE issue - as this is not experienced by anybody else. So just retry, there is something you must be doing wrong somewhere along the way.
Hence I was asking for possible suggestions, although I do admit the post may have come off as finger-pointing unintentionally. It was not my intention to blame it on CORE by any means, by the way.
One question for a good install: do you see a single scenario when you start up CORE?

Yes, yes, and yes. Everything seems to be fine at first glance, when using moddir it shows only CORE scenario, and when I tried out the non-moddir method I loaded the CORE 1936 scenario instead of vanilla, but the very moment I release pause or press "Start game" if I have not paused before it's instant CTD, regardless of the country I am playing.
Stupid question: are you sure you are running AoD 1.08? There was an instant crash in 1.03 or 1.04 ....
Yes, I am running 1.08, and it's not bad thing to verify the obvious in incidents like these.

Since you have already reinstalled and that did not fix the problem, maybe it was the DL itself that is corrupted?
Do you get as far as the resource usage event (which AFAICT is what pops up immediately on unpausing)?
That might be an indicatoer of where the issue might be.
I've instralled CORE 0.5 and 0.6 with 1.07 and 1.08 on 3 machines running XP, Win7 32 and Win7 64 and I've not seen this issue before.
Mind you I'm no expert!

I made another clean install and downloaded CORE again just in case and so far... it seems to be working. Seems like it was the file then. Bit odd though, since the installer never really complained about anything or whatnot.
Any ETA for the definitive version?
Their Finest Hour has lots of nice new features, but some stuff is still FUBAR... above all the complete lack of flavour and bad AI regarding Japan... so until mods are done, I want to keep playing this wunderbar mod

As far as I can tell, 0.60.21 (or rather 0.60.21b, since there have been a couple of changes) is probably the last Beta.
Of course, the Betas here are already pretty much final versions.

Thought I'd share something I haven't seen happen before in CORE:
September 1941, Italy is still neutral but has conquered Greece.
Bulgaria declared war on Turkey and with German help has now annexed it (their drive continues into the Caucasus).
I finally conquered China (as Japan) in July 1941.
The UK keeps invading North Finland.
Nice bit of variation. I'll prod the Italians to DoW the UK or the UK will end up conquering Finland and Norway!

0.60.21b sits on my hard-drive and waits for another hands-off run to be completed. There are also some bug-reports to adress on the Terranova forum. If I can complete it until Tuesday night, you will have it Tuesday night. Otherwise, due to travel schedules, it will have to wait until Friday (and by then there may be more bug reports to adress)....
