A complete run down of the problem can be viewed in the CORE .2 release thread since I originally thought that CORE was causing this problem.

I was getting three error messages.

First:
error17fg.png

Second:
error28rh.png

But instead of a third error message, then crashing (sometimes it crashed before the third.) It started up semi-normally. However I had my old CORE saves (1.1)

It's a really strange couple of messages, since neither of those files are supposed to exist in the original HoI2 (and thus not in CORE), but only in Doomsday - and thus should not be able to be called either through HoI2 or Doomsday. Can you run vanilla HoI2 1.3b?

Whoa. I hadn't tried untill you asked. Same error messages. Goofy.

I see what it is now. I have both HoI and DD installed to my computer. It's that new 1.2 DD patch. You can't select an install location and I trusted the installer to find the right one. It installed to Hearts of Iron 2 instead of to Doomsday. I have NO idea how to fix this problem.

No. The problem has been identified. Apparently if you try to patch DoomsDay while you have Hearts of Iron 2 installed you patch Hearts of Iron 2 instead. Thus ruining your HoI2, and leaving your DD unpatched.
That's not completely true - I have both DD and HoI2 installed next to each other (default suggested folders) and have no problem running HoI2 after patching DD to 1.2. On the other hand, I haven't touched my HoI2 installation after installing and then patching DD (other than new versions of CORE, but that's not related).

However, my suggestion would be to take your problem up with Paradox technical support and try and figure out with them what's gone wrong with the 1.2 patching. Good luck and hope to see you playing CORE soon (I'm grateful, in a way, that it wasn't CORE that was responsible for this!).

Sorry for all the quotes. It seemed better than starting from square one.

EDIT: I'm not the only one with this problem.

Hmmm, something similar happened to me too. I loaded up my old HoI2 mod I worked on (not DD) and tried to play a scenario that used the No Time Limit Mod. Oddly enough it quit after it loaded since it apperently wasn't installed. Since I never touched the folder since I installed it, and had played it without this problem before installing DD patch 1.2, maybe I am seeing a problem similar to you (since th patch probably overwrote the origanal H0I2.exe with the NTL mod on it)

TallyHall, you must reinstall HOI2, see sticky how to do it. My guess is that you are using NTL mod in DD. Then the installer wont recognize the Doomsday and install the DD1.2 in HOI2.

If you are using NTL you must reinstall the old exe, before patching.

My doomsday game is completely unmodded.

I already did the whole uninstall reinstall thing. Didn't work. If no one comes up with a good solution, I'll just uninstall, delete, reg scrub, then try reinstalling. But I would like to install the 1.2 patch for DD in addition to having to go through all that trouble with HoI2. (If at all possible.)

You need to uninstall both, since mods like CORE are not supported.
Install vanilla versios and then patch DD with 1.2 and HOI2 with latest pach.

Well, I guess the biggest problem is that 1.2 keeps trying to patch HoI2 instead of DD. Core aside. The patch prevents vanilla HoI2 from running as well.

I already did the complete uninstall, and now I can play HoI2 and CORE. But I still can't patch DD because it tries to patch HoI2 instead.

Don't install CORE.
Patch DD to 1.2 then install and patch HOI2.
Then when it all works, you can install user mods.

Okay, but the problem is this was happening before I tried to install CORE.

Back when both versions were vanilla, is when I tried to install the 1.2 patch. It installed to my HoI2 folder instead of DD back before anything was modded. I'm afraid to try to install the patch for DD again because I don't want to have to wipe HoI2 from my computer again, and reinstall/patch again.

I'm thinking I might just move HoI2 to some obscure folder and make it hidden so that the patch can only choose from DD and random other games, but I thought I should bring this to your attention anyway. Mostly because I'm apparently not the only person in which 1.2 won't install correctly, and can't get it to install correctly(theoretically) without doing some goofy stuff.

Yes. This has been established. The problem that I am presenting here is that my DD 1.2 patch is installing to my HoI2 files. I know the DD path is intended just for DD and not HoI2. The problem has been identified. I am trying to bring to Paradox's attention that I am unable to patch DD for fear of ruining my HoI2 files. Forget CORE. This is a DD 1.2 patch issue.

If you patch your DD BEFORE you install your HOI2, then obviously it cannot install to your HOI2 folder.
You could also change the registry entry , or zip the HOI2 folder or even rename it then install the patch and then revert to the correct name.

After taking a week of not bothering I tried to do as you suggested. I uninstalled Hearts of Iron II. Reg cleaned.

I tried to patch, and got this error message.

"Doomsday is not installed on your computer. Please install the game before installing the update. The installation will now exit!"

1.1 installed no problem.
1.2 just refuses to admit that I have Doomsday installed no matter what.

I do not see anything in there about patching to 1.1
Did you try installing patch 1.2 before 1.1
1.2 is designed to be patched over a clean install.
Where was the DD installed to? what drive and what path?
Did your install of DD from the CD create a registry entry?
Did you search to see if there is a registry entry for regular HOI2 still in the registry?

My advice was to patch from fresh install.

Some that ran into that situation could patch 1.0 to 1.2 but not 1.1 to 1.2

C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday

Was the default install.

I have since tried, C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron 2
C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron 2 Doomsday
C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron II

I uninstalled Hearts of Iron II
I reinstalled Hearts of Iron II Doomsday.
I reg scrubbed.

Same error messages.

I however did notice that when I reg scrubbed nothing popped up relating to Paradox or Hearts of Iron.
I remember there is a way to manually delete registry entries but I can not remember how to do so. Perhaps with all my unistalling and reinstalling my registy is messed up. I suppose the next step is if you could help remind me how to manually alter registry entries. Or, tell me if there is a way to manually patch. IE, select the folder for the installer since it can't figure it out on its own or picks the wrong folder given the option. OR even just the updated files in archived form like earlier Hearts of Iron II patches. Something I can just copy and past to my folder.

Check the Manual uninstall thread for how to delete registry entries.
