Now that 0.3 has been released, we should probably gather info on which mods work, and which ones won`t. Since people have different opinions on how things should look, we can have this thread (with previews hopefully) on different mods so that each can cater hoi2 to his own liking. Many of you might have looked over my "Guide: Choosing HoI2 Graphic Mods"-thread. So this should function in the same way; just for CORE.

My first choice would be a different set of map colors, the ones in CORE look to much "crayon-like" to me (for lack of a better word). Sexxicolors should work well here too. I edited it some again for my own liking so grab Kinseek`s Modified Sexxicolors.

The Graphical Improvement Project (GIP) and Design Mod Project (DMP) have some minor problems. All leaders and tech-teams appear to work just fine, possibly techs themselves too, but the occasional model is wrongly applied (helicopters for cavalry for instance). You also have the CORE in color addition.

Erich`s Skins work fine.

Most sadly though, the unit icons of say Scytth & Kristoff and Cpack do not work either. Model names have been changed, and new unit types added. I cannot stand NATO symbols myself, so I hope someone can make these compatible. For the moment we do have the vanilla hoi2 icons converted, courtesy of Sensemann.

Bebro`s Sprites should still work.

Colored icons for HQ-presence, supply status etc. and the new air mission icons also work.

For the record the CORE in Color will be designed to be compatible with GIP. Given the vast amount of units within CORE we haven't been able to get all the major countries covered, and glitches with GIP (or Vanilla for that matter) ironed out. The Soviet, German and US models should, by and large, be covered, the rest still need work.

Kinseek, you don't happen to like HSR mapcolours and feel to edit them in order to not having two countries with same colors as neighbours and such?

I like your edited sexicolors to, but I really like the #opposite word for blanc# feeling of the HSR map. :)

I haven`t tried HSR in aeons really, but I do know that if I want to install it I have to uninstall, then re-install and patch to version 1.2 to be able to install HSR (it`s a picky installer for sure). Send me db\country.csv and map\colorscales.csv and I`ll take a look (send it to kalhovdo@hotmail.com)

Yes, you must register first before you can see the download links.

For those who are experiencing problems with either one of the graphics installers: two ZIP files have become available in the Download section of the Terranova website. In order to verify whether your graphics install has been succesful: you should have full model coverage (with the exception of naval models, due to the scheduled revision in the upcoming version) for GER, SOV and USA.

This doesn't make sense to me...

The following info is from the readme file for Sensemann's new SKIF icons for Core .30,

"Installation:
Just copy the the both folders into your Doomsday folder. Be aware: After you installed them, you can't play original DD anymore, because the icons
affect it, too."

The Core creators have gone to great lengths so that their mod can be played without disrupting the original game. So why would I want to install folders, files, or icons which will cause me to not be able to play the original DD game anymore?

I want to add that I really appreciate all the hard work others do to make my HoI2DD gaming experience more fun. I realize it takes a lot of time and effort to mod the game and make it better.

I've just installed CORE .30 for the first time, and there are a lot of things I really like about it. But I'm scratching my head, trying to figure out why I can't have cool icons and sprites without disabling the original game. There's got to be a way around this. Can someone please explain? Thanks.

Cheers,
magic032

You can install the icons in the moddir instead of the regular DD setup. All you have to do for that is to use the corresponding subdirectory in the mod-CORE2 directory. There is the issue that a lot of the graphics files will only load if there's a matching file in the DD gfx folder (or subfolder). In that case you need to have the original file (or a dummy, like we do) installed in the DD folder as well, but those will be additional files, not replacements.

The picture is becoming clearer.... can you please explain what "dummy" files are (seems obvious) and how or where do I get them from? Thanks.

And thanks Hagar, for the response to my other posting, regarding my first attempt at using a mod. Cheers.

Anything new happening on the icons front? I cannot say that I'm even enjoying vanilla icons after playing with such fantastic icons before without CORE.
