After I installed CORE, I noticed that the game crashes constantly. Has anyone else noticed this, or found a solution for it if they have?

I get an occasional crash, and there's a crash often associated with the Vichy event that is proving elusive.
Do you get the correct checksum (LXES) when you start the game ?

I've never encountered the Vichy event as I never get past somewhere around January 15th 1936. But I think the checksum might be the problem. If I have the right one, what would that look like?
As said, the Checksum has to be LXES for a correct installation. You need to have the Armageddon Patch 1.3b2 installed.
OK, I have a couple more questions: can the necessary patch be installed over CORE, or do I need to deinstall it? Also, I seem to be able to download every patch but the 1.3 patches, both a and b. Is there a different install procedure I should use?
The two Armageddon beta patches are called 1.3b1 (the one you have) and 1.3b2 - there's no Armageddon 1.3a patch.

I've noticed that the 1.3b2 patch doesn't behave like the other patches. How exactly should I install it? Do I just paste it into Doomsday?

Regarding the patch :
- create a new temporary folder. Extract the patch to this folder.
- locate the newly created folder called Armageddon 1.3 beta 2 - 24.04.2009 - PHVR and rename it to either Doomsday (if your game is installed in a Doomsday folder) or Armageddon. (if installed in Armageddon folder)
- copy the files from the newly renamed folder so that it overwrites your existing game. You must overwrite the existing files or it won't work. If you don't get the message about overwriting files cancel the copy and try again.

So just to make absolutely sure, I replace the actual Doomsday folder with the renamed folder that just has the patch in it?

You overwrite your existing Doomsday folder, yes.
Renaming the patch folder to Doomsday simply allows you to copy all the patch files at once, rather than having to copy each folder & sub-folder from the patch seperately.
