Hello,

I downloaded the core 0.71 MP install file from both the uk server and also from jgbaxter's site.

In both cases the files were infected, my loyal antivirus program came up withe the following warning:

...contains signature of the (dangerous) backdoorprogram BDS/IRC.Mutin.3

downloading the .rar version right now, need to check if this one's been infected as well.

Just thought you really should know ...

Regards,
Gorlin

EDIT: Just found out from the faq that there was a known problem with antivirus software so that the message comes up without there actually being a virus.

Perhaps you should consider telling people this right on the download page? Saves everybody those new threads popping up ... like mine

Thx for the warning. Just wanted to download it. I once downloaded an open source project and it took me ages to discover and remover the backdoor that came with it. Seems if too many people are working on a project one will always be infected with some backdoor that sneaks into the distribution.

There is no backdoor in the installer, and it cannot sneak it because too many people work on the project. The stuff people contribute is not made into executable form but evaluated by an interpreter, that doesn't allow any back dooring (well I hope it doesn't since it's hoi).
The executable for download is an installer and only compiled by one person.

As Gorlin points out in his EDIT there's no backdoor in C.O.R.E. If you are concerned about a possible infection then submit the file to your antivirus software vendor. The makers of Antivir have already verified that there's no malicious code in C.O.R.E. and that the warning is made in error, so please make sure you update to the latest virus definitions.

Thanks for the comment on adding a comment to the website, I'll discuss that with our webmaster.

Using PestPatrol I also get an instant warning about BDS/IRC.Mutin.3.

I hope you are sure there is really no backdoor ... .

Well, like I said: if in doubt contact your anti-virus vendor:

thank you for your recent inquiry.
We could not find a virus or virulent components in the attachment you have
sent us.
Please update your version of AntiVir.
