Hoping one of you CORE vet's can help me out here.

I've installed the latest CORE MP patch, and mid-load, have the following error message appear:

---ERROR: (Unknown type in LandDivision) 'speed_cap_art=5' Line = 17 file = db\units\infantry.txt ---

If I ignore the message, another similar type of message appears another 50 or so times. The game then crashes when I try to load up a game in SP, or MP.

Other players have got it to work, so it's obviously something wrong with my own setup. To set the game up I started with a clean HOI, patched to 1.06, then patched to CORE v0.8MP. I have tried editing and replacing the infantry.txt files but had no success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

(Awaits simple answer that makes him look foolish)... :eek:o

It seems something went wrong with 1.06 installation, since HOI.exe should be dated 1st April 2004!

Try uninstalling HOI and then deleting all Hearts of iron folder and then re-install in sequence:
HOI
HOI 1.06
CORE 0.8

So am I the only one having problems installing core 0.8mp? The installer does not extract core.exe file, tried few times with no luck, I tried also to redownload the file... again with no luck...

There is no core.exe in 0.8

that is a leftover from 0.71.

The mod uses the regular HOI.exe with a mod-core extension to launch througth the shortcut created on your desktop when you install the game.

Hope this explenation helps.

Oh really? Now I understand.. thanks a lot!
Anyway I was talking of 0.8MP, so I guess no mod-core extension is needed ( as the multiplayer version does not use mod-dir).

Are you still on rc2, Ghost? ;) I added a splash-screen in the final build. Also be aware we are talking about the MP version here which is slightly different. Joel, Franscesco and a few others are doing some tests on it before I announce it :)

Munster and myself tested the game out last night Core 0.8MP. Had no crashes at all, events all seemed to fire nicely, Very stable.

We would have tested it with 3 players but joel had porbs as you know now. Well i see no reason to delay the general release. The only thing we will discover after playing multiple games is the balancing between the major powers, espically Germany and the USSR.

Mike, thanks for the feedback. Tonight I'll check the problems that Francesco reported and also see if I can reduce the size of the splash screen (core.exe), then I'll re-build the MP version and announce it. There's a post by Terhune in the v0.8 discussion thread (EDIT: cross-posted into MP discussion thread) that raises some interesting points as well which I'll consider, appreciate comments from you guys :)

Well, finally I got the damn thing to work. (3rd time lucky it seems)

Our current game is 3 player, and as the UK player all seems ok so far.

Manpower is low, but then it was last CORE update as well. The only objection I have with this is the detrimental effect this has on IC upgrades. Perhaps a couple more manpower events, or a higher manpower starting level for the Democratic nations could help. I don't want a 100 division army come 1939, but I do want a reasonable IC base.

Otherwise the game has run well - but one question: If we started the game on normal/normal settings, and then saved & re-loaded several months in on V-Hard/Furious, which setting takes effect?

Just some more patch specific feedback:

Playing 2 games at the moment, and particularly at the harder levels I have to congratulate you guys. This patch, combined with the benefits of 1.06 is finally making this game what it always promised to be. Big thumbs up!

Do we still have the issue whereby we need separate installs for CORE MP and CORE SP? If I install CORE MP to the same directory, does it mess up vanilla and SP?

Sorry to be a bother.

I'd recommend separate installs, there's a difference in German manpower which will make the SP game easier if you use the MP version.
