Remeber is v0.22 not 1.0 + which means still an early beta.

Either case I think MateDow is coming over my house next weekend and I will make sure to slap him around for you so he wont make any more errors in the mod! hehe

Core V .22

Just thought I would put my two cents in on the subject. I too play germany most of the time, I have found that it is mor challenging now and if I play agressive, which I normally do, Russia does react sooner. It definately makes you balance things more and play a bit more historical. I have also found that I am not able to build as much before I invade poland leaving me with a smaller army to manage with. Haven't figured out why yet because I havent had the time but still, more challenge. BTW the way I usually play on the hard difficulty setting.
Have fun all....

Germany had an army of 106 divisions in Sept. 39, of which 6 were armored.
This is not possible to recreate in CORE v .22 since each Inf. costs from 9-10 IC and needs over 100 days to make. The time is not so much an issue for me but the IC is kind of ridiculous. 22 for an armored unit? Why bother with an armored force at all, which is Germany's greatest strength? The naval bombers cost 3.5 IC, where the other aircraft cost about the same as vanilla or D.D. WTF? The year long wait for subs is somewhat tolerable since they only cost 1 IC, but how am I going to manage making hundreds of them? How can I make the Luftwaffe strong enough to attack Britain by 1940? It's almost impossible to make a force historically accurate, which is what I like to do because I am a huge dork. I really would like the IC cost to be redone before the DD version comes out, but I salute you CORE guys for redoing the tech tree, which in HOI2 or DD is pathetically simplistic.

OK great to hear, thanks

My issue with CORE is that (as Germany) Japan and USSR always get into a war before I start with the soviets (early 1940). By the time I'm ready to go, the soviets are fighting in the far east and i can easily dominate.

I wouldn't say that CORE sucks, but my biggest gripe is with the much praised techtree. While some stuff is definately great (such as when you research AT gun you no longer need to research it for tanks or SPAT), but overall it feels like most inventions were just split in parts but take the same time to research as the corresponding vanilla invention. This adds nothing to the game except for confusion. And the winter doctrine at some point gives you a choice to research a tech that gives bonus to hills/mountains/frozen or alternatevely half of that same bonus to hills/mountains/frozen. WTF ?

Hi,

I don't think this is an accurate description of what we've done for the tech trees at all. We did not take the vanilla trees and simply split them up into smaller pieces just to add more of them. Instead we rebuilt the entire tree to support a more realistic & complicated game model. So the additional techs are necessary to support the level of detail we're striving for.

I just described how I see it. While it is has some good points, vanilla techtree is more stremlined and comprehensible, some clarity of CORE techtree definately wouldn't hurt.

I still don't like the title of this tread, but I may be somewhat biased... ;)

Anyway, the tech trees are still being tweaked, though I definately agree with Dec that it models reality a lot better than the original tech tree. CORE gives you the option to focus on techs and doctrines in such a way that the original Vanilla game will never offer. It's certainly more complex, and as such needs some time to get a good feel of all the research opportunities. Thus CORE will have a more steep and longer learning curve than your 'regular' HoI2, but that's perfectly allright by me.

btw... core doesn't suck. It's better than vanilla hoi2, but it does still need some adjustments

hear hear ... CORE rules ... so much so that i've stopped playing vanilla b/c it just feels so oversimplified and lame by comparison.

any more details on when the DD compatible CORE will be out?

HOI 1 with later CORE versions was the best game I ever played. I imagine that the tech system implemented was much easier to accomplish with HOI's multiple tech tree and web configuration, which allowed a simultaneous research of dozens of techs (when you figured out which ones worked together for researching a new unit). HOI 2 has a very streamlined tech tree which was my biggest gripe when it came out. The current CORE tech system is very much a throwback to the old way, but it is meant to be historical, not easy. If a tooltip for each unit type describing the required techs could be made available, much "confusion" might be avoided.

It stopped me from playing regular Vanilla the moment CORE 0.10 came out, that's for sure... :)

Well I'm still waiting on a new beta version... I know a lot of things have been fixed, but few the major issues are still not fixed the way we want to, thanx to those EXE changes by Paradox. Broadline the game is working on DD, but right now it's just not up to par with 0.22 game experience wise. That has to be resolved first... :(

I Totally agree,HOI with CORE was the absolute Best..the tech tree, the zillions of added events. It really set the bar high for CORE with HOI2,I like what has been done to the new tech trees and am looking forward to seeing progress on it in the DD version that comming up.

I miss all the little thing that made that HOI so great, the small things like sloped armor,3-man turrets, all the differnt small arms.it is to bad that HOI2 is so constricted compaired to what was possible to mod in HOI tree .While you had 10X the tech's to chooses from in HOI 1, it has a linear tech tree,so you just basically research what ever was next in line, although 1/2 the fun of CORE is dicovering(though trial and error mostly)what is the best formula and path to reseach.

A guide,or tooltip could really help players that are just discovering CORE. ;)
