corrupt save files?

I've noticed that every once in a while, EU seems to corrupt the save game file - the game will die on a particular day (ingame) and there is no easy way to figure out what is causing the problem - I once found two entries for a trading post, and another time deleting all wars manually from the save game file solved the problem...but this is a pain, and I can't always find the problem - like the game I am currently stuck in.

So, are there any tools perhaps you guys at Paradox use for fixing save game files or showing the problem?

My sys specs if it matters:

EU v 1.09 NA
Win95
PII 400 MHZ 288 MB RAM

Check out the tools section at my site. There is a link to a proggy called EU Autosave.
It solves the corrupted savegame problem from destroying your saves by alternation between 2 or more savefiles for the autosave.
Of course this doesn't fix the original problems of your game chrashing, but it shure makes you not lose possibly days of gameplay =)
