Love the game but

a strange thing is happening to me

I can play the game no problem for a week or two and once I get my game in the 1700, the EU2.exe will refuse to work. The game won't start at all. I don't use any mods and I don't dare touching no file to change anything. Anyone got this or I'm just unlucky?

Are you playing with the 1.06 patch? Which country version are you using? (Ubi/SF/etc.)

Does it crash consistently during a certain month or year? Is there any other action that you think might be associated with the crash?

It's strange, usually the game will be increasingly buggy over a few day

Events cease to happen, games crash on reloads etc.
Then I won't be able to start the game at all.

Do you have a save game from immediately before you can't load any more, and also a save game that you can't load? If so, please e-mail them to me at the address in my sig.

What is the error message you get when you try to load and it refuses? Does the initial game load work (i.e. you're getting the initialization occuring perfectly and it's only when you load the save game that you have problems)?

Did you have the same problem under earlier patches (if you've had the game for a while)?

I'm going to need your complete system details too please. There's a "Read First" sticky at the top of the forum with a "form" that shows you what I'll need.

oops

I did some testing and I think I've found out what went wrong.

As for the game starting to screw up and crashing more frequently seems unrelated with the game not being able to start at all.

I went to correct some typo in the Text.cv in the config file
only I opened it with excel (not wordpad) so I ran into some trouble when saving the change. The game wouldn't start at all after.

Aha!

If you plan to do any editting of files make sure you always back up the file first and then use Notepad or Wordpad (not Word or Wordperfect or Excel) to edit it. The more sophisticated programs embed formatting and other information in the save files that will make EU2 crash for sure. Having an original, untouched backup means that you always have something to go back to that you know will work.

Let us know if you run into further problems...the more accurate the details you give us the more likely we will be able to solve the glitch.
