I am playing England with ICG 2.3b in the 1520 scenario. I new COT opened in Sacramento ( a Level 1 colony) that at least was mine. It now controls the trade in all of North America (all my colonies/trading posts).

This is insane! Is this is EU bug or an ICG bug?

PS. I tried to attached a JPG but I couldn't figure it out.

No it is not a bug m8 :D
I regularly have a CoT in Columbia, and as long as there are no CoT's in the surroundings it takes most trade... not really insane imho.
Just watch the Portuguese CoT's in IndoChine... Same stuff

I do think this is a problem. Why in heavans name would produce market forces that drives trade from East of the Miss. river from London to the West Coast?

There shuld be some kind of continental divide for trade. The West Coast and the SE of the great Perm. TI could have a COT on the West Coast, but not the Midwest and the 13 colonies area!!!

This is a basic EU engine issue. When a new RoTW CoT forms it takes alot of the local provinces under its trade control. There is a chance of a central/southern/eastern CoT forming as well and this will take a big chunk of the provinces away from the west coast. Enjoy the profits while you can. :)

I know how you feel. I spent mucho bucks building up various cities on the east coast, primarly Manhatten, but also places like Quebec, Carolina, Bayou, etc. Then, as Champlain worked his way west, I decided to build a colony in Monterry for the Gold. Its around 1600 and I have about 700 trade in Eastern North America, so im thinking its kinda odd a CoT hasnt popped up. As soon as I setup a colony in Monterry, talking 100 colonist to Manhattens 2400, the CoT for North America pops up there!

Of course I owned it and planned to build it up for the gold so it didnt bother me to much, but it still was very odd. I even had a Shipyard and a Art Academy built there with medium fortifications!

More observations about CoTs.

I played that French Game further. A CoT opened in Manhatten (finally) sucking up the Carrib Trade, Atlantic South American, and Eastern/Central US. It shrank Monterry to a very small 25 =) Only a fur trading post in California I had added to it.

Then Zactas, Spanish, opened up. It stole most of the Carrib and Central American trade. South America still went to Manhatten, except for the Pacific coast. Manhatten is about 900, Zactas is about 500, and Monterry expanded some, mostly due to some new (foreign) colonies in West Canada, but it also grabbed some Pacific Mexican provinces, is now about 100. I fully expect a CoT to open up in South America at some point, stealing about 200 to 300 from Manhatten and about 150 from Zactas (I know im mispelling it). So, the CoTs should even out in the end. Fairly decent job by Paradox.

Incidentally, the Portuguese had a CoT open up in Indonesia. Only 400 colony, but it was massive, 1800. So I decided to conquer it. I started building a colony on Sumtra, figured id just get 1 ship and 1000 men and take it. As soon as the Colony set down (100 people) a NEW CoT opened up. It took most of the trade (it was 1400), left the Portuguese with 400.

Oddly, the 2 switched back and forth in dominance for a while, until I just decided to conquer it anyways. Now they split, the Mopondo (or something like that) CoT is 1100, and my Sumtra CoT is 1300. Im expecting a CoT to open up on the Phillipines or something sometime in the next 60 years.

Another odd thing. Japan has lost ALL of its territories, except for Edo, to my CoTs. The Edo CoT is only 42. the Edo province.

This has lead me to conclude that trade tech is very important to a CoT's range. I have just gotten lvl 10 max for trade, and since its 1642 and Japan has Pagan tech, im suspecting they are still very low (below 5). But the CoT really isnt nearby, and I dont have the least bit of political control over those provinces, so the only reason I can think of to explain Japan losing its home provinces to a far awat CoT when it has its own CoT is that my trade level is driving it.

Thoughts?

Trade bans and embargos kill COTs

and make it harder to follow what is happening.

My best guess is that COT size (# provinces) is a function of trade level of host COT nation and political control.

No, religion :D

Take for example China. In the early versions their trade tech defo wasn't inferior when a European COT popped up in the area and slurps up half their trade from politically controlled Chinese provinces :D

Hmmm...

so Pagans have super-powered COTs bc they worship sticks?

You may be right. I dunno. But when controling that, as in Europe (where religion is the same at the start), the COTs do vary (maybe this is an illusionary correlation) with trade tech of host nation.

It's not all religion of xure. Political control for instance matters too. Trade level might matter too but I never really noticed an ibnfluence, let alone a huge one. But religion plays a big role.

Contrary to someone example of big venetian cot because big venetian trade tech, Venetian and Genoese Cots are hardcoded, i once started IGC in about 792 AD and all of the world (except some small Edo-style cots :D) traded through those two italian cots

I've got one in Québec! :p

And also two in South America.

The Dutch just got the South American CoT in......Terria del Fuago! (The farthest south island in SA)

About Edo losing all its provinces, that defeats the purpose of the trade ban doesnt it? I mean, in essence im getting trade from virtually all of Japans provinces, so Edo might as well be open to me to trade.
