I have a quuick question about CoT. I searched the forum for this question and didnt find it.
If you own a CoT, and you embargo a nation who's TP belong to your CoT, do the TPs stop contributing to it? I know that nation cant send merchants, and if they get enough TP and a clolony, it might split to a new CoT, but as long as they belong, do they still contribute, or am i shooting myself in the foot? I own a bunch of CoTs, have embargoed some countries, haven't noticed a drop of income, but i was just wondering.

I don't know whether embargoing an individual country causes trade to move to other CoT's. I have seen trade moving to other CoT's as a result of the random event that gives you an embargo against everybody.

I hate that event, you get -98D adjustment to your trade research, while driving business away from your CoT. At least for me, the event has never occurred at a time when I could take advantage of it by driving everybody else out of my CoT's. Important tip - don't monopolize or take advantage of this event to get people out of small CoT's - the 60D a year (in trade tariffs) you get from these CoT's is usually better than having an uncontested monopoly.

So, only a partial answer. Being someone that experiments around with the game alot, my natural inclination would be to experiment - try things out and see how they go. But that's me.

it would be good to know for sure, cuz during a war, why burn a level6 TP owned by an enemy, but in your CoT, and using 6 of your traders to get it back to that level of trade. based on my observations since i posted this question, Im inclined to believe that unless the TP switches CoT, that trade income isnt embargoed, just merchants from the home country. I owned 2 huge pacific CoT(1 in india, 1 in phillipines) that a bunch of prot and dutch TP were partof, so ileft them alone, unless they were level 1, and i was in a mood

Correct, the trade goes to the CoT (or some CoT).

Piracy and blockades might effect CoT trade, but I'm not sure.

Sometimes. Probably quite a lot of the time, if you're embargoing someone like Portugal or Holland. If they have a lot of trade in the area it probably means a new CoT will open somewhere under their control, so you'd lose it permanently.

Torching all those TPs is fun, but it can cost you a lot of money :D

It says -96D, but...

It says -96D, but if you watch the total from month to month, the -96D is not really subtracted.

I've noticed that the CoTs I control shrink when I get the accursed embargo event, but not when I embargo just one country.

Depends which country. If your Mekong CoT is running trade for 27 Portuguese colonies and you embargo Portugal, it'll shrink all right. :D
