Whatever you might think of Surviving Mars' price - cheap or pricey - the OST alone goes a LONG way towards making it more than worth it, or adding the icing on the cake. I'm gobsmacked by how good the music is. I pre-ordered for the skins, but the OST and Quantum Sonic have turned out to be my favourite inclusions.

Very Good!.jpg

I'm saddened that Quantum Sonics isn't part of the pre-order package, but the Surviving Mars category is my second favorite channel, of which Chlorine and Water (clever song naming) are the absolute best.

Cl starting at 58m7s

Quantum Sonic has some absolute killers too, though I wouldn't know the titles or where to find them outside the game. I'm not much of a dancer, but I move/twitch/jerk around with the music and get distracted from the game whenever my favourite numbers are on.

George Strezov and whomever did Quantum Sonic, you are a musical beast! Bravo! Encore! Encore!

The music itself is excellent, but the DJs are "off" because they're pretending to be native American English speakers but don't use American idiomatic language, and the lyrics don't scan because, again, they were written by a non-English native speaker. So the songs end up being almost-but-not-quite hitting the mark the developers were clearly going for, which was mid-century American radio.

I honestly wonder why they couldn't get a handful of American performers to handle this part of the game. They're a dime a dozen.

I hated when Cities Skylines did this too, faux-American radio stations, it's that offputing that I don't even turn on the in-game radio anymore.

Yes, we should definitely talk about the music in Surviving Mars. Because as soon as one discovers the in-game Radio button, this becomes brilliant!

I played the game for about 16 hours yesterday (counting about 25 hours in) and switched the station all 2 hours or so. Each channel has a special attitude and each music selection has something on it's own. After it took me a while digging into that future-country-stuff where heeyah-hillbilly-guitars are crossed over with granular synthesis effects, this now totally hits a sweet spot for the game.

But top of the hill is also for me Quantum Sonic. What a blast of a soundtrack! Kudos to the artists and the guy/girl who assembled this.

Quantum Sonics songs with vocal on it made by Paulina Palmgren and Jonatan Järpehag. They are really great and need more love!

I'm a huge fan of stark soundscapes and ethereal floaty/repetitive/minimalist music. Stellaris is one of my all time favourite soundtracks, but Surviving Mars is hot on its heels.

Quantum Schmantum, give me more Celestial Mind. Ten Years from Now is the best song I never knew I wanted in my life. It makes me want to hug my GF under the stars every time I hear it.

I need to try the Quantum Sonics channel again. I tried it once and got this song which had just the word "Music" repeated over and over and I couldn't stand that for more than about 45 seconds, so swapped channels and never looked back. But apparently there's some absolute gold on that channel, so I should try it again, at least give it a chance before writing it off.

If I had found a way to filter out certain tracks (an option I loved in Sims 3) I'd have happily continued to explore the channel in the first place.
