Land and Air forces completed, only the Navy remains to be done.

Problem: battleships are long and certainly not square.. so how do you fit an extended rectangle into a square?

IDEA FOR BATTLESHIP;

Am I barking up the wrong tree? Or am I just barking...?;)

Nearly done. Here are some of the latest I've completed. It's really good to see the planes flying around the map, all colourful and much better than before... You can see what things are, even when the map is zoomed out. :D

DD: BB: CL:

CA: BC: Carrier:

A taste of how it all looks:

I'm hoping to be finished very soon. I just want to go back over stuff I've done and still not quite happy with .. yet!

A great job, indeed, but... it seems too "charged" to me...

Well it's late game 1943 and things are busy. I'm on the last ship now and hope to post this mod tomorrow, if not later today?
I never realised that modding took weeks of 12 and 14-hour days.... But it's very addictive and enjoyable to do...

UPDATE: I've posted the Counters = Sprites Mod separately on this forum page.

Cant deny that those are beautiful, but I think the ships are way too cartoony!
The planes fit, but not those weird "Gameboy Advance Wars" like ship decks :p

I will now post further comments and criticism on the new thread.

JRHINDO: Yes I see your point. Problem is that space is very limited to draw within. BB's, BC's and even CL's are looooooonnnnng and thin items.. and also, you need to have a consistency of images and still keep some sort of differentiation.

I could have drawn an almost frontal-on image, say for the BB, but then the BC and CL would look exactly the same... as it is only when you see the ships side-on, that you can clearly see the 4 big guns vs whatever. You're very welcome to show me otherwise....

Well mind if I fiddle with your counters? I will try to make it better (and fit my taste more maybe :D).

Also I had made this a few days ago, inspired by FoDD mod counters I had made:
hoi_counter_strip3.bmp

They are kinda obsolete by now.

Oh Please DO, I'd love to see a more polished effort that we can all enjoy. I'm now considering doing separate counters for Ger/US/UK/Jap etc. hmmm... and changing those cartoony ships.... thing is, the more you look at something, the more you see what you can make better... but there has to be a cut-off ...

Yes I'll most probably have another go, do Ger and do some bad-ass counters for them!

EDIT: JRHINDO: I got the flag idea from your counters and I see other things I could have used... now!.... but no! It's good to trade ideas, as we all can feed off eachother and overall, things improve...

Ok I did this:
hoi_counter_stripnovajr.bmp

So the warships are in general way less blocky and cartoony, I tried to give them the look of real existing ships of the time tho they arent remotely accurate enough to guess the ship design obviously. And also did some other small changes I thought were needed to make things look better. But by looking at the other thread I feel my work is already obsolete again :p

I'm Sorry JRHINDO, I'm unemployed (still) and have nothing else to do but draw ships... but I think I'm done now and am looking for my next "diversion".
