I tried Iran, but it was possibly with Modern World mod. It is a big, strong country, so it's not very hard to play it, but at the same time it's a poor country, so it's challenging at the same time. You're also in a very interesting position. Well, middle east is always a hot spot. Managed to conquer Iraq and Syria. Tried fighting Pakistan, but they there's a desert between Iran and Pakistan so it's hard to supply units, so it was a standstill.
Certainly not by GDP, it's one of the lowest. But they have 80+ million population, so could be richiest overall.
No, but with some work by the player they can be. They have nice natural resources you can exploit, a decent sized population ... all the elements for success are there, it is up to the player to sieze them.
