1066-1085: A Beginning... of sorts
December 26th, St. Stephen's Day, 1066
As Dirk Van Holland, Count of Zeeland, I announce my plans to marry into the Kingdom of Poland, hopefully gaining control in the east.
I started out rockily, as from 1066-1071, I was mainly away at other things besides ruling. However, after my long break, my wife began feeling a bit odd. She said that she was worried about our homeland. She was worried that others may try to take it from us, or, failing in that, harm us. And so they did... for the very next year, in April, my first wife was murdered by an assassin from the King of Germany. He denies it and not one person knows of it but me. But I shall have my vengeance! I grieved for four entire years before I married again, to the kind daughter of the Count of Frisia, Gertrude. These were prosperous years, in which I had 2 sons and 2 daughters, Antoon and Willem, as well as Isabelle.
