Hello,

I have the most current Nvidia drivers (I have a 7900 GTO). I have removed the game (and folder) reinstalled the game, then the 1.2 patch. Then Edited the settings to reflect 60 refresh and window mode. Rebooted the machine and load the software with the same result (Crash after map is initialized) I have tried this on various resolutions. (1680x1050, 1280x1024, 1024x768) all at 60 refresh. No change in the issue.

The one thing I have not tried was use a non DVI cable and non-DVI monitor (not available here). I can not imagine that be the cause of my issue, but seems to have helped others. I am including the relevant files. Note other very graphical games work fine (Oblivion for example)

I don't have a lot to suggest, sorry ... try editing settings.txt:

renderTrees=no
multisampling=0

If that doesn't help, I don't know. Can you run EU3 OK? If so what settings does it have?

Thanks for the reply.

I have run and played EU 3, Crusader Kings, and HoI 2 recently. The settings of EU 3 are the same as EU:Rome. (except for a couple new settings in the Rome file.)

I did try anisotropicFiltering=0 and renderTrees=no. No luck on either.

I will give it some more thought.

UPDATE:
I tested EU 3 since the install of EU Rome. EU3 ran fine. I then proceeded to install EU3:NA. That loaded and ran fine. I then proceeded to install and run EU3:InNomine. When loading IN I recieved the exact same error and problem. After map initializes the game crashes.

So what ever IN changed in the core EU3 game would give a clue as to the issue with Rome.

Me again. Another update.

I tracked down a non DVI cable and monitor. My video card only has DVI video out, so I had to use an adapter. Anyway I completly removed the game and registry files. Did a complete reinstall of the game, then patch, then edited the settings file to adjust the refresh rate, run in windows, and all the other tweaks. Proceeded to run the game and the exact same problem occured, game crashed right as it is trying to load the main menu after map is initialized.

Is this an issue that is being worked on? As it stands now I can not run this game, and it is the only game I have ever bought that I have not been able to run. Did I just waste my money in purchasing this game as I can not return an open package?

Is there any explaination or communication that can explain the cause of this issue? I have a fairly decent video card, but if I can slap in an older card to play this game I am willing to try that (if certain the video card is the problem).

One thing I noticed is that I do not have SP3 installed (I do have SP2 and some updates), but I can not imagine that matters in this case.

Any words of encouraement, or is this to be treated as shelfware until I get a different computer?

Well you to realise I don't work for Paradox. I'm just a volunteer here and I do some beta testing for them. I don't have any insight as to what has been changed technically between NA and IN, for instance. My guess is that it is indeed connected with your unusual video setup, but no as far as I know your issue is not being worked on by PI as no-one else seems to be getting it - it's hard to work on a problem you can't duplicate!
I did try anisotropicFiltering=0 and renderTrees=no. No luck on either.
It was multisampling=0 I was suggesting, did you try that? And I just noticed you have fullScreen=no, have you tried that with Yes?

Your getting a similar issue with IN is interesting, again we're not seeing that for anyone else. Is there any chance of borrowing or trying another video card? The problem does seem to be specific to your machine.

Thanks for the Reply Andrew.

To answer your questions.

Multisampling was tested at 0 (and it was last time I tried).
Fullscreen yes/no both been tried. It was suggested that Fullscreen=no is more forgiving in terms of video compatibility.

As I read the tech boards I see that my problem is very common. In the EU:Rome section there are a dozen posts about crash after map initializes. Not all users were able to resolve thier issue. I saw a couple users give up trying to resolve thier issue. One decided to just play on a different computer, and another was told Paradox is aware of the issue and working on it. (Hence my inquiry on any updates.)

I can look up those posts later when I have more time.

As it stands now, it seems I have to set this game aside, and hope a future patch addresses this issue, or I upgrade.

Yes, I was the one being forced to play it on a Mac Book Pro of all things... I'm very unsatisfied on the way things are going considering this is a major fault. Andrew is doing the best he can though and I wish him luck. I gave up on trying to get it to work on my PC system.

i also have alot of crashes but think i figured it out havent tested it yet but here is what i think i found when playing the game i noticed my video card ran very high temps so i turned down the clock speeds to see if that will keep my video card alil cooler
