crash on autosave (intermittent)

I have intermittent crashes when autosaving. This ends up with a corrupt autosave of about 64 bytes, although the oldautosave file is usually good.

Is this related to game speed (I tend to play at extremely fast)?

Single player only, also (don't play mp)

WinXP Pro SP2 Build 2600
Alienware Area51-m Notebook w/ Mobile Intel Pentium 4 - M 2GHz
With 1024Mb RAM
9.9Gb free on my HDD
Video: Mobility Radeon 7500 w/ driver 6.3.0010.6218 (English) and 64Mb video memory.
Sound: Avance AC97 Audio w/ driver 5.10.0000.3800 (English)
DirectX v.9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
I also use a Logitech USB Optical mouse.

I believe it is caused by high speed. Also if you can't reproduce it, it can be very hard if not impossible to fix.
