I have been playing for 3 or 4 weeks now without any problems at all. Today, the game just won't launch. I have bought and installed via steam. The launcher loads, but then as soon as it tries launching properly I get an immediate crash to desktop (windows tries to find a solution etc).

I have tried loading without mods.

I have tried a fresh install (and have verified local files in Steam).

The ONLY difference I can identify is that I had a Windows Update today, this one:

(Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (KB2467173)

Installation date: ‎14/‎04/‎2012 18:42

Installation status: Successful

Update type: Important

A security issue has been identified leading to MFC application vulnerability in DLL planting due to MFC not specifying the full path to system/localization DLLs. You can protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

Can this have had an effect? I have LITERALLY had no problems at all until this afternoon.

I have also updated my GFX drivers since the crashes to see if it would help. It didn't.

Any advice very gratefully received.

Once I got it to launch in windowed mode I changed the resolution to be the same as my computer, closed the game, relaunched in full screen and everything was fine. So the problem is solved but I have no idea why it happened. Can anyone shed any light on it?

Not really, no, sorry. Presumably most of our Windows7 users have that same update, and we're not seeing other reports like yours.
