game crashes on launch, no launcher, no music. i just press play, my Steam icon turns green for 2 seconds, then blue.

drivers have been updated, i've tried turning crossfire off, i've followed all of the tips in the steam thread including the ones suggested by other players, i've reinstalled the game 4 times, restarted steam and my computer multiple times, tried running windowed, tried running as admin, nothing works.

game creates a .dmp file every time it tries to start.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Video Card: 280x X2
CPU: i5 4670k

I just copied my settings.txt file from Crusader Kings over to the empty Stellaris folder, and that worked. No idea why that should work, but there you go

gave it a shot, didn't work, tried HOI3, same result. i've also tried refreshing my steam files, messing around with my AV, and deleting the steam overlay.

works on my shitty laptop for some reason though, but it should be working just fine on my desktop.

Does there exist a folder Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ ? If not, most likely you have Bitdefender and that app is getting in the way. Add stellaris.exe to its Trusted List and you should be OK from there.

We've also now seen this with ESET, so possible other AV apps.

the folder exists, i've tried deleting and and the game remakes the folder every time i try to start it before it crashes. i don't have bitdefender installed, i use microsoft security essentials and i've added stellaris.exe to the trusted list.

Same for me

Linux Mint, Kernel 4.4.0-22
intel i7 6700K
Nvidia GTX 980 driver 364

Starting from console:
$ ./stellaris
Setting breakpad minidump AppID = 281990
Steam_SetMinidumpSteamID: Caching Steam ID: XXXXXXXXX [API loaded no]
Speicherzugriffsfehler
"Speicherzugriffsfehler" = "Segmentation Fault"

Maybe it has something to do with localization?
The default language on my system is german.
