Alright lets see if I get everything you guys need

Using patch 1.2, on XP w/ SP2, and a HP Pavillion laptop w/ AMD Sempron processor, 384MB of RAM (I love funny numbers)
Just over a gig of HD space free (I could move it to my external with 250GB)
ATI Mobility Express w/ 128MB free driver 8.191.0.0

DirectX 9.08.0299.000

I think thats everything... not sure...

ANYWAY heres the issue, I click the icon, it goes to the video, after that you get the nifty opening graphic, the bar scrolls about 90% of the way across on Initializing Globals and then stops, music plays on for a minute, then that stops too, I alt-tab in and out and this message is revealed.

CRITICAL ERROR

---Error (unknown type in NavalDivision) 'convoyattack = 14' line = 18 file = db\units\divisions\battleship.txt
do you still want to continue a/r/i

I looked at the file in questions line by line and compared it to battlecruiser.txt and it seems that convoyattack should be legit. I got this problem after registering (a month or so after my trial expired)

It may take me a day or so to respond, I am currently serving in Iraq so please try to hit every possibility when you reply, thank you for your time.

What you have here is a mixup between the doomsday expansion and the regular hoi 2 game. Your unit database files contain doomsday expnasion specific values, which the executable of the regular hoi 2 game does not understand. Hence the error you get.

Uninstall the game, reinstall it from CD, and apply the correct patch file beloning to your version of hoi 2. So: doomsday patch for doomsday expansion, and regular patch for regular hoi 2 version.

I'm trying to run Doomsday, HoI II runs just fine, and I bought the download version and I'm currently in Iraq so I am hoping to avoid needing to re-download. The connections here don't last long enough to download big files very often.

Well, I'm afraid you have little choice in the matter. For some reason, your installations of hoi2 and doomsday have ended up in the same location on your hard drive. This can cause all sorts of nasty problems, apart from the startup error you are now getting.

The executable of the orignal hoi 2 does not understand how to deal with the doomsday extentions. So either you reinstall doomsday, or hoi 2 on the current location on your hard drive. That's the only way to roll back the mixup.
