I've just installed HoI II Doomsday on my new system (Vista OS) and the game runs fine until I choose a country and starting date and then try to launch the game. It then immediately crashes every time. Any ideas?

Maybe try to put the game in Window XP compatibility. Just need to right click the desktop shortcut and go in propriety.

If that doesn't work we might require more info like system spec.

Thanks for the input, guys. I've already tried the "compatibility mode" for windows XP with no effect. However, I uninstalled the game, reinstalled it without adding any patches and it ran fine. Then I installed patch 1.2 and the game still runs just fine. It is when I install patch 1.3a when I have a problem. I guess I'll just stick with patch 1.2 for now...

Wow. After installing Doomsday and patching it up to version 1.2, I decided to play the game for a few minutes to make sure it would work this time. Then I went and read for a couple of hours and when I decide to play the game... It crashes again at the very beginning! I've never had a game work and then not work when nothing has been done to the PC in the meantime. Now I'm truly stumped and wondering if I have some sort of virus (though I have McAfee on at all times)?

Did you do what i wrote in post 3?

If so post your specs please (as i have written below)

First of all, thanks for your help coreymas. It's nice to know that someone out there cares. :)

I noticed that my google desktop sidebar, with clock, newsticker, etc. kept getting moved to the other side of the screen every time HoI crashed. For some reason, it's not unusual for games to mess with the sidebar so I ignored it at first. But then I thought: "What if I just turn off "Google Desktop"?

TA-DA!!!

Problem solved. I was even able to install patch 1.3a and have it work properly for the first time ever. I hope my experience will help someone else out one day...

Interesting,

So it was a program trying to grab the computers attention that crashed HOI2.....

I have seen other programs (like Yahoo messenger, Musicmatch etc) cause some graphical wierdness but never have it totally crash HOI2.

Note to self -- Google is getting just as bad as Microsoft.... trying to take over the world!
