Crash to desktop in loading screen

After installing CK: DV and its 1.05 patch (even unpatched I had this problem) and after I pick my region to play and hit start another loading screen briefly pops up before I crash to desktop. I don’t know if this is the music file everyone else is having problems with because it closes and crashes so fast I can’t read it.

And I use XP, not Vista.

Just to make sure (so that it is not a typo)

Are you installing patch 1.05 on top of DV ?

If yes, then that is most likely your problem. Patch 1.05 is just for CK. For DV, there is a patch 2.1 (download it from here)

First I tried it unpatched because I wanted to see if it worked. It crashed right after selecting my nation and hitting start.

Then I tried the 2.1 and the same thing happened.

I followed with 1.05 and it crashed in the same spot. And I just tried 2.1 again (I removed each patch after each attempt) and its still a no go. I’ve also restarted the computer. Could it be the music files? Is that one of the first to load after you select your country? If not then I’m really at a loss because the screen just goes by too fast for me to read what’s loading and thus, what’s making it crash.

Have you tried this

Try and rename your avi folder to avi.old

Set colordepth to 16bit

And just for the record, installing patch 1.05 over DV is of no use

Thanks. and I found that renaming the avi folder to avi_OFF fixes the problem (I actually came back here to inform of the success Again thanks for your time.
