Crash to Desktop Over Event Picture

I've been getting a CTD while loading CK2. I already did a fresh install. I initially had error for Rajas of India related event pictures, but those went away when I bought that expansion. I went and bought Sunset Invasion thinking that this would solve the remaining errors, but I still cannot play the game.

Any help would be appreciated.

Running in compatibility mode actually solved the issue.

That should not be necessary at all ... and it limits memory available to the game. Does it run OK like that?
