EUII crashes to the desktop when I click `Valkyrienet.` I've tried running a chkdsk and I've reinstalled the game twice, this has done nothing positive.

I don't want to have to format my hard drive for this game, but it looks like I might have to.

Any ideas anyone?

Sounds like you have firewall or router problems.
I will move you to the experts in the MP forum.

I think this is a problem with the game, and not multiplayer, but okay.

Also: I don't use a router or firewall, and I've been able to use Valkyrienet fine before this weekend.

Does the game crash *immediatly* after you press the button, or do you get to the channel-selection screen? The game might crash (it has for me) if you try to click forwards when the game is still connecting to Valkyrienet.

Other than that, there are possible problems:
a) You are not connected to the Internet
b) Valkyrienet is down
c) There is a router/firewall you are not aware of :)

I know when I'm connected to the internet, Valkyrienet was up at the time(people were in scheduled game I was up for), I'm aware of these things. The only firewall I use is the Windows firewall, which has never posed a problem before this. I use it to stop worms.

The CTD occurs after pausing for 1 - 2 seconds when I click Valkyrienet. I never get a channel selection screen.

hmm, Vendere Sacerdo had a similar issue this past weekend, only it was with connecting to vnet via Victoria. He eventually found the solution, which was setting his firewall to let Victoria through. Perhaps your problem is the same as his?

I'm using the SP1 firewall, which doesn't block this anyway. I'll try connecting through Victoria or CK shortly, I'll also try with the Windows firewall disabled.

i have had the same problem: my game crashed as soon as i pressed on v-net. its NOT a router/firewall problem, my router was configurated right and i was able to join games with ip. but i dont have a clue what caused that troubles. i can only give you this 2 solutions:
1. join by ip, its even possible when the game was setup on v-net and all others join by v-net
2. reinstall your whole system. i have done it and now i can join v-net again. its a bit of work reinstalling windows but it should work properly afterwards again.

I'd rather not have to reinstall my whole Windows operating system just because I can't connect to some shitty Paradox server. That will cost.

It's obviously not client side or at least not caused by the client, because a few people seem to be having the same problem recently.

It is definitively client side as most people do not experience the problem :)

Try re-installing Eu2 only to see if it works. Try also to remove all your spyware with Spybot (google it) for example. Some of them are nasty and bug the whole system.

As Jarkko said, it's a client side problem since over 90% (free estimation ;) ) of the people can connect without problem.
