I'm running the latest patch on a toshiba celeron satteleite pro laptop with 64 RAM and (ample everything else), Windows ME with XP update.
- When I reach 1548 the game crashes...although this also could be from a 'low battery' message...although sometimes when i get that message i can skip between the OS and the game with np.
- the game often crashes when trying to exit, i.e. after all the exit stuff and back to the main menu click 'exit' (or whatever)...system stops responding.

Having seen all the other posts I guess this is a XP problem and one which will be fixed in the newest patch...but just thought u should know.

The game was not advertised as being compatible with XP - mainly because XP wasnt out then.
The crash after Quit problem: When you reach the desktop after quitting then leave the machine and mouse etc be for a while. Make a cup of coffee or something - after a while the machine should be handed back to you.
Make sure you read "Running Problems" - a sticky in this forum.
Just before you reach the part of the game that always crashes try this:
Save the game. Quit. Start the game but pick *another* country. Load the saved game but continue to play the other country until you get past the crash point.
Save the game. Quit. Start the game but pick the *original* country to play on with.
This sometimes works if it is an event that is causing the crash.

And of course when you do this the AI will disband all those nice 50K border armies you build and send your 50 ship fleet to India. And you have no colonies in India, so on the way back you lose 40 of those 50 ships:D

See something called 4in1 AAR if you don't believe me.

Makes it more of a challenge then. See it as your Prime Minister running the country whilst you were ill! :)

well, i was actually addressing a DIFFERENT problem to the one you provided answers for...but now the problem you reffered to has occured...

AHH! i have NO OTHER COUNTRY TO PLAY!!(at start i put all countries on non-playable, i play ottoman)... the crash occurs around March 8-12 1614 so I suppose it's the precursor to the 30 years war...WHAT AM I TO DO, i have mostly developed india already but if i lose my colonies there (hell, do i lose the cities that were colonie?!)...i own nearly the entire muslim world, I CANNOT GIVE IT UP!!

i usually save only on ONE file to prevent too much cheating, i do have another save maybe 15 YEARS BACK  but even if, will i be spared the utter gut-wrentching experience of seeing my empire disapear in a whisp of buggy code?!

i've tried to disable events etc.. but to no avail....
TELL ME THERE'S A FIX FOR MY WOES!:(

You can edit the savegame file and change who is major or who you are playing. How to edit it, you can find on Huszics FAQ. Go to the FAQ-forum and look for a sticky thread about FAQ's.

ugly & star...

..thanks guys, ugly, i misunderstood your post. i had a look at the four in one aar (quite nice btw) and understood what you were talking about....skipped right by Y2K...:p

i didn't lose my colonies in india, and my only 50+ army stayed where it was...however, everything did seem to want to set sail for india but i put a stop to it...i did howeverlose the 2000+ i had in the bank but i see it as cashing in on the insurance policy...

thanks guys, the glorious ottoman empire will now continue to hold history hostage!:D
