Nope the txt file didn't work.

Ok, try and press the windows button + 'r', which should open a window. In this window, type "eventvwr"(without quotes). This should start an app called Event Viewer. In this app, select "windows logs"->"application". Do you see any logs which involves ck2.exe?

Yes the error listed by the guy in the very first post is the only error log that I have on here.

Hope this helps!

There seems to be three repeating logs with each start up attempt.

"A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (CK2)"
Followed by:
"The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because composition was disabled by a running application"
Followed by:
"Faulting application ck2.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4f34e1ea, faulting module ck2.exe, version 1.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4f34e1ea, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00503dd4, process id 0x7ac, application start time 0x01cceb5b5a644324."

Have either of you tried to either "Run as Administrator" or use the XP compatibility mode?

Are you trying to run the game using a TV as a monitor?

Trying to look for clues here :)

I tried both administrator and xp compatibility. Still nothing. And I don't even own a TV.

I'm running into a similar problem where it CTD when the loading reach loading flags. I've tried to change the resolution, delete the gfx folder and run the program as aadministrator. When it CTD the report says
Microsoft visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: ...m files\steam\steammapps\common\crusader kings ii\ck2.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I don't have any clue on what to do so I hope you have.

Well maybe tomorrow they will have a solution for us. Until then, here is 1 internet cookie for trying to help us out.

Just a thought to see if this helps. I've been unintalling and reinstalling to see if that fixes the issue like it has for some people. I noticed that the game never goes through a first time set up like most other games on steam normally do. I also have the installation add a short cut to desktop and that short cut never has an actual icon. It is just a blank white icon.

I'm having a similar problem to Nickinaround. When I try to start the game from the launcher the game just doesn't start. No error messages, it just doesn't work. I'm running windows 7 64-bit, using regular monitors (no TV, no HDMI). I've included my DXDIAG for what it is worth.

Update: When I try to run ck2 as an administer it says the program can't start because MSVCP100.dll is missing from my computer. And to try to reinstall the program to fix the problem.

Update2: Fixed the problem, once i got the error message I found a link on the steam forums that led to Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
