I get a crash when loading sounds or flags depending on if I pick the dlc's. Sometimes I even get to whatever is after flash, then crash. I have the steam version.

Got it to work. I deleted gfx folder in my documents\paradox\ck2 . Next time i run the game it freezes when processing flags, then next time I run it runs fine.

Okay, i might have a solution.. Note that I'm running it on steam and on a windows vista. None the less, my game CTD when it reached the flags and therefore I thought that it might be an idea to remove the file. This didn't work, but instead I put only half the file with flags in the game and started it. It worked even though some flags were missing. Then i took another half of the other half, aka 25% of the files and put it and pressed play. this also worked. I kept putting 50% af the files in the file and startup. I've just put the last flag in the game and without doing any other thing, it works with every flag in its place. I'm not saying that it can solve any others problem but it solved mine, so I hope it can help.

try this.. steamapps/common/crusader kings 2/ck2.exe .. set compatibility to run in 640 X 480, then start from this .exe .. adjust your res thru options and exit game.. remove check from 640 X 480 box and start app from steam library

Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/gfx

Does this folder exist for you?

Hi guys, I'm back. No this does not exist for me though there is a gfx folder in the steam folder.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\gfx

Are we coming to the conclusion that maybe the flags are the issue?

I'm having a similar problem. When I try to launch the game the hourglass appears for a second or two then a message pops up that the game has stopped working and Windows will close the program and check for a solution! I'm using Windows Vista, don't know if that matters?

Nickinaround, do this ^!!!! At least it worked for me. A huge thanks to Tegus for putting up with us and to hotoru for posting in this thread. Internet cookies for all!
Now if only I didn't have exams all week...

This hasn't worked for me, I don't think my problem is anything to do with the screen resolution to be honest.......although I can't be sure.

These are the errors I'm getting plus my DxDiag file.........someone please help! Thanks

It seems your graphics card drivers are five years old and out of date:
Driver Date/Size: 5/22/2007 10:28:58, 2555904 bytes

I'd recommend you to update your drivers and try again

So as ive had the same kind of problems that have been stated here (pressing play getting music and crash).
Hover i have played it before on my computer, i managed to play 14 hours in one session, before going to school and falling asleep, hoever the next time i start it i notice that i had to go through the regular steam install of redistrutable.
That went fine but when the direct x started my PC crashed, ive managed to determine by the logs that the crash was not steam or direct x related.
but it stopped the install, which leads me to the point of beliving that some of the direct x files possibly has gone corrupt.
and since they are logged as updated direct x wont touch em.
so now i have to either manually hunting down the corrupted files or reformation of the HD.
hope this helps.

and when i say crash it means i manually stopped it cause im an idiot

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a go.............This probably makes me sound like a complete novice, but can I download a new graphics card driver from somewhere?
