Well, before I go into the save game bug, let me mention that earlier in the game due to a random event my Monarch died and a Regency took over, about 5 years after that my Regency went 'insane' for 9 months (?), but after 4 years it still had horrible skills in everything (like 1 dot in each and every skill), so I edited my save game to get Edward 20 or 30 years before normal (and I revised his stats a bit upward too because that Regency and 4 year insanity sucked =)). Anyway, just a separate bug issue. 99% sure it has nothing to do with the problem I'm having now.

Current issue (and issue I've had in the past): in the Grand Campaign now (on 2 separate occasions), I've had a game go to the year 1530-1560, and when I try to save the game it crashes. First time I decided to restart since I was still learning the game anyway, now I'm back and it's doing the same thing. Crashes while trying to save. I really like this game, but my 10-day deadline on the return is on Monday and I don't think it's worth keeping if I can't get past 50 years. :/

At any rate, I do have copies of my save games. I have a working save file from March 1535 (England), and I was able to save it again in March of 1535 as well. I have a partial save file from June of 1535 (crashed while saving), another partial from August of 1535 (crashed while saving), and another partial from May of 1536 (crashed while saving). One time I played through until January of 1537, and that time it got a fatal exception error while trying to save, but I didn't get the savefile (had to run scandisk and fix the lost fragments error).

All the savefiles cut off at the same time:

diplomaticdates = { TUR = { year = 1532 month = december day = 26 } ALD = { year = 1526 month = january day = 5 } }
wardates = { }
colonists = 0.000000
diplomats = 6.000000
merchants = 0.000000
dynamism = 0
}

Nothing else after that. Also does not make the .CFG file.

I put the save files on my Geocities account at (and Geocities is pretty crappy, I don't think it'll let you grab them if you just click on the link, you have to actually hit return on it again once you get to Geocities and it says it's not available):

www.geocities.com/axere/SAVES.ZIP

Had to zip it up because it wouldn't accept the .EUG file extensions, etc. Anyway, if someone at Paradox (or even anyone else) can download those files and tell me what's wrong or how I can fix that problem, that'd be great. If I need to send the save files to somewhere else, please let me know..

Thanks,
J

update

I installed the game on my old p2 450 and it crashed while saving there also. Played it til January of 1536, attempted to save, crashed to desktop. This is with the north american v1.08 patch installed.

Save file terminated at the exact same spot as I previously mentioned. In addition, playing from the March 1535 save file, I was able to save in April of 1535, May of 1535, June of 1535, and July of 1535. When I tried to save on approx. August 3rd, the game crashed (this was 2nd attempt, 1st attempt crashed whilst trying to save on Jan 1536 as stated above). Anything after July has resulted in a crash 100% of the time. Anything before July results in a successful save 100% of the time. July itself seems to be about 50-50 (perhaps some event occurs in the middle of July somewhere that messes things up).

hehe

Lol, one last comment.. At lunch here I got a bit bored so decided to see what happened if I just let it run, inevitably it ends up crashing to desktop even without me saving. So in short: it crashes on save after approx. June of 1535, I can save it before then fine, after that it crashes on save. If I try to run it without saving, it ends up crashing around approx. 1538-1540. I have 256 megs of memory and I set my virtual memory size to both 1024 min/1024 max, and "let windows manage", so I'm sure it's not a memory problem. I'm also using Win98.

Oh well, last comment on that, I'll wait for (hopefully) a reply.
