Platform: Steam
Game Version: 1.8.7 (Masala Chai)
DLCs Enabled: Colossus of the South, Dawn of Wonder, Voice of the People, Melodies for the Masses
Mods Used: None
Operating System: Windows 11

Issue Description:
Every time I start a new game in Victoria 3, the game crashes to desktop within the first 5 minutes of gameplay. I’ve tried multiple countries and different starting dates, and the issue persists consistently. There’s no error message — the game just closes abruptly.

Steps Taken to Troubleshoot:

  • Verified game files through [Steam / relevant platform]
  • Updated graphics drivers
  • Disabled all mods (if any were used)
  • Tried running the game as administrator
  • Lowered graphics settings
  • Reinstalled the game

Request:
Looking for help identifying the cause or a possible fix. If there are any logs or crash reports I should include, please let me know where to find them.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.
IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3/crashes/ folder, attach here the latest (only!) exceptions.txt

Hello,

I tried that but the game still crashes. It crashes about 6month into the start of a new game.

CPU Model: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K
You may have the CPU/bios hardware issue discussed here:
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ration-intel-processors.1591821/post-29305331

If you haven't updated your bios recently (say, the last month) please check for an updated bios. Then please implement the “Intel Default” option in it, if present.

If that doesn't help, attach the dxdiag.txt please. IF dxdiag.txt fails to attach here, rename it to dxdiag.log , or zip it up.
