Both the native and Proton versions are broken. When the native version didn't work, I switched to Proton Experimental. This, however, failed to launch because of lacking C++ redistributables (something which I was hoping Proton would manage here). I then decided to install Proton-GE and play with that. With GE I actually get a new, black fullscreen window which crashes after a seconds. Frustratingly, this did not generate any crash logs.

I was just wondering whether any Linux guru could try to set me on the right path to repairing this. Thanks in advance. :)

Arch with an Nvidia GTX 760 with latest drivers, and an older i7.

The current launcher has a problem on Linux. But you get past that, is that right? This Is with the game itself?

If so, what happens when you run the game's executable directly from a terminal command line? What output do you see there?

Occasionally, the launcher works natively. When using Proton-GE, the launcher does work consistently. When I manage to launch it natively, this is the error output:

There seems to be some issue with some 32-bit files?

When executing from terminal:
$ ./victoria3

Either launch the game from Steam, or put the file steam_appid.txt containing the correct appID in your game folder.

When I launch with Proton-GE, as I mentioned, the screen goes black followed by a crash. No crash dump is created in the crash directory, however. I suspect it gets placed somewhere else, but I wouldn't know where to find it.

I can't help with Proton I'm afraid - a/ I've never used it and b/ it's not a supported way of running this game

The (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32) messages are normal, all Linux users get them with all our games (maybe others for all I know). That is nothing to do with your problem.

The output errors you get relating to Steam are normal as you are not running the game from Steam. I was hoping for somethign else, like a missing or outdated libc or whatever.

At this point I think you need to submit that .dmp file to the developers via QA in the Bug Reports forum here. Sorry about that problem, whatever it is!

Suse Tumbleweed here. Version 3.9.2 did start but running into the crashreporter cumming up - ignoring this and you could play, closing the reporter and the game shut down. Since 3.9.3, the launcher will not start in native version for Linux from steam. I just tried to execute stellaris.exe by doubleclick, which then startet a wine instance and started and loaded stellaris, though with artifacts in the UI. I did not try proton since in this case, out of principle, I would think that this would get fixed for the native Linux version of the game. All fingers crossed.

The launcher not starting on Linux is a separate and known issue:

The new launcher 2023.14.2 should fix it, but getting past the old launcher issue to that version might be tricky!

So I fiddled around quite a bit and this turns out to be a deeper rabbit hole. It is related to my ancient Nvidia card. I installed more proper (Kepler) drivers for my GTX 760 and now the game starts and, as expected, loads in faster than on my cursed Windows, however, when I get into the game there is immense stuttering and lag. This also happens in CK3 I noticed, so it is probably something related to Clausewitz and these drivers. I have tried changing some in-game settings to no avail, and I have tried playing on Windows. It works fine for both games on Windows 10.

If no one can help me I won't be surprised and suppose the thread should be closed. Thanks for all the support anyways!

Your 760 is somewhat over the game's minimum 660, although well below the recommended 1660. So I would have thought it would be at least acceptable performance. Is this the driver you are using?

What about the CPU and memory?
