Crashing problem

I bought Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun from gamersgate, version 1.03c. Immediately started the 1836 scenario as Prussia, I'm attacking the German minors now and the game continually crashes to desktop at random times, 5,10,15 minutes into the game. Makes it impossible to play. I've tried basically all of the solutions I could find here in the forums
*Renamed the avi folder to avi_back
*Changed the color to 16bit
*Changed the game resolution to 640x480
*Closed all applications, firewall, etc

My specs are:
Windows XP, SP...3
1.79GHz AMD Sempron
384 MB RAM
612 MB free space

You're playing just plain Vicky, not Revolutions, correct? If that's the case, you may want to try it with the latest patch (1.04).
If that doesn't work, let me know. There are other things we can try.

Minimum game res is 1024x768.

384MB RAM is rather low for Win XP.

Please post the output from DXDIAG (type in the 'run' box).
