I've recently re-installed EU1, with the view of playing this great game once again but have been thwarted by some real bad crashing problems both in SP and MP.

Its really, really annoying and somewhat unpredictable. It crashes every five to ten years in SP on my laptop. I've tried MP and its better, but not for my son, whose laptop crashes after barely a few months.

Both installations are of EU1 1.10 (pre-patched new re-released discs) before AND after the IGC/Enhanced AI installations. The laptops represent the diversity out there, mines a P3 700Mhz, and his is a P4 1.2Ghz. Both however are Windows XP although this hasnt presented a problem for me in the past. I started out on Windows 2000 when first playing this game.

There isn't a great deal of logic with this fault and i am kinda hoping i stupidly missed a 'quick' fix. I'm presently installing the game from an older (not pre-patched disc) in the hope that maybe its 1.10 thats screwing me about.

Any clues?

Update:

Well i seemed to have fixed it. I've installed the 1.07 disc i had, experienced the SAME problems, then followed the advice place in another thread here. I changed the compatability mode to 98... same problems... changed to Windows 2000 compatability mode and hey presto - seems to be fine.... on 1.07. I'm going to introduce the new patch, IGC, and mods slowly and carefully.

I'd consult Castellon in the EU2 Support. :)

Seems to be okay to be honest - ran a test game with Turkey and it didnt crash until 1530 or so... far more consistent than the time before... and i was used to that before so its back as it should be. Going to update my installation (which may further improve it) and give it a proper testing.
