I have read the stickies, but there is nothing there that lists my problem. First things first: HOI 1.06 patch installed.
AMD Athlon 2600
MSI KT4VL
WinXP Pro
768 MB RAM

My game crashes to desktop randomly. Happens perhaps once/twice per extended playing session; about 3 hours. Haven't noticed that I was doing any one thing for the game to crash, it appears to be totally random. Its not that serious of a problem because I autosave every month, but it is annoying. Any help would be appreciated

Can you confirm for me that you have done the following and kept those settings.

1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock.

What does it do?

Having trouble!!!

Im having the same problem. Hoi is crashing to desktop. I changed color graghics to 16 bit., then i tried renaming the AVI folder to AVI_back, but i wasnt sure where to find AVI folder so i searched HOI editor file and when i tried clicking on that file i recieved this:

Error:(UnKnown Type in LandDivision)'speed_cap_art=5'Line=16 file=db/units/infantry.txt---

Do you know if this error has anything to do with my HOI crashing to desk top?
And also, what and where is my AVI folder?

thank you

The AVI folder should be a sub folder of your main HOI folder, if you do not have one something is wrong with the install or you have a Pirate copy.

cool i did everything you suggested.

thanks,
Do you have any idea what that error meant? (i posted it on my last repy.)
it appeard when i tried to open hoi editor.

There maybe a second copy of the editor, other wise the current one was the wrong version for that patch. :(

Most people use a text editor to do modding anyway.

so maybe i downloaded the wrong patch?

what do you think? I tried playing the game just now and it is worse then ever. It keeps crashing to the desktop.Im guessing it might be the patch i got.

Patch should be fine di dyou get it from Paradox plaza download page?

UnKnown Type in LandDivision)'speed_cap_art=5'Line=16 file=db/units/infantry.txt---

This error typically occurs when a patch did not install correctly, this is most easily verified by checking the date on the file HoI.exe.

I looked for HoI.exe. but i didnt see it. I also couldnt find it on my comp files search.

What files are in your HOI directory that have custom icons?

Also make sure you have nothing running in the back ground especially virus protection.

That would be the case if he got it when running hoi.exe; in this case he got it with the editor which happens because the editor supplied with patch 1.06 is apparently based on old code that doesn't recognize the 'speed_cap' parameters. See my bug report here.
Shouldn't have anything to do with HoI crashing.

To find HoI.exe or equivalent: check the properties of the shortcut you use to run the game.

Don't worry I knew that, since I had logged it when the same thing happened in Beta. :) But was a little concerned when he cliamed he did not have and HOI.exe file in his HOI folder. There are some "special" versions out thier that do not. ;)

cool thanks

Hey thanks you guys. Ive been playing for the last two days without any crashes. It was the running programs in my trey that was messing it up, I just exited them all and seem to have no more problems.

Sorry for the extra new post.. nobody was replying to this one for a while a couple of days ago, so Ithought id post another.

thanks again.
