Summary

Game crashes when I try to play multiplayer in any 1.9 version, it also appears to crash the host and/or lobby when I attempt to join. I have done all that I could find both on this forum and off it to resolve this issue with no change. Not even throwing errors that are noticeable in the crash logs.

Description

While it could be the BIOS issue that's happening, my processor is AMD, and not Intel, so I'm not certain force-updating my game while resolve this issue. I've tried everything me and my friend can think of, across two separate AMD Processor, Gigabyte-based motherboard possessing computers, and even factory reset one of them. I have even rolled back to each previous version available on steam, and the game only crashes when opening to multiplayer on versions 1.9 and up.

Steps to reproduce

I try to access or host a multiplayer lobby both from singleplayer and joining or hosting from multiplayer.

Game Version

1.9.*(Newest patch right now, 1.9.7.)

OS

Windows 11

That is not a known symptom of either the Win11 24H2 or Intel CPU issue, in fact IIRC I've never heard of this with this game before.

Are you saying it you revert to 1.8.x it does not happen? Has it been happening since 1.9.0 , which was back in June?

Do any of the players have an ASUS PC? If so check for a utility GameFirst - if they are running that have them unload it before starting the game. It has been known to cause this with older games, although it would be a first for this game!

Correct, I tried back around the last week of June and/or first week of July, and I systemically went back through all available steam versions and opened multiplayer just to be certain, including 1.0.*.

Negative, none of the players, including myself, use any ASUS computer or hardware.

If you have a VPN, try running it up before starting the game.

If not, connect your PC to the internet via a mobile tether/hotspot, just for this test - any different?

And, do you have Windows 11 24H2?

Well perhaps this is a new symptom for that problem.

A user has come up with a possible workaround
Definitely worth a shot - let me know if that does help you! Note that to test it you don't actually need to use Processor Lasso, just Affinity in Task Manager (for testing purposes anyway).

Good luck!

It unfortunately did not work, even when I turned off some 8/16 cores. Also, I got around to updating my BIOS for my Gigabyte motherboard, and it didn't change anything either, I believe I am well and truly out of options until something else changes. If it would help, I could record a brief video of the process as a visual aid, but other than that I've got nothing else in mind to try.

A video of a game crashing or hanging doesn't help us determine what caused that, I'm afraid!

Do you have a VPN? if so run that up before starting the game, see if that helps. If you don't, connect this PC to the internet via a mobile tether/hotspot, just for this test.

If it still happens then, can you move this PC to another network elsewhere, and/or test with another device on this network?
