Inability to load certain autosaves

OK... I am getting an instant CTD whenever trying to load either "autosave" or "oldautosave" from a given game. Just clicking on these files causes the CTD. I tried starting a new game as the same nation and loading these files, which enables me to get as far as "Reading Scenario" before the CTD.

I am using 1.03 and already read "Running Problems", reinstalled EU2, closed background programs, the lot.

I stupidly deleted all old saves of this game after the CTD which started all this, figuring with two versions of the autosave I wouldn't have any problems. Is this game gone for good? :mad:

BTW... if anyone from Paradox is interested in feedback on the actual performance of 1.03 it has (so far) crashed far more often than 1.02 ever did on my system.
 
patch 1.03 is more stable. Remove DirectX 8.1 and replace it by DirectX 8.0a and it should help. Try this utility: Direct X Buster

If you have an Nvidia card, uninstall the drivers using Detonator Destroyer

Most of the crashes are caused by bad video drivers. Usually, the latest version is supposed to be better, but that's not always the case. If you post your complete config info, I can help you further with the crash problem.

Now the autosave. I have no idea why it is doing so, but I don't think you'll be able to get back to your game. You could try looking in the recycle bin for your old files, they might still be there.

Before you trash your autosaves however, please send them to me at eu_traduction@yahoo.ca
 
Thanks for responding, I'll switch DirectX drivers and see if that might help.

Of course, I emptied the recycle bin after deleting the named save games. :(

As for specs:

Toshiba Satellite (laptop)
Windows ME
Celeron 650 MHz
128 megs of RAM
Video card: whatever's installed on the computer, I don't have another one. I think it's called S3 Savage IX.

I've just seen there are multiple reports of corrupt savegames in the bug forum. Apparently, it's more than a simple technical issue.

This problem never surfaced in the beta so we are investigating it and trying to find a solution ASAP.

I'll be back later with more suggestions for your crash.
 
Crashing while loding saved games..

I can't seem to play past 1550 or at least give or take 20 years.. Before it reaches that year, saved games are loaded fine, but when the game itself gets past 1550(+or-20), it just crashes. After that crash, every single saved files crashes the game while loading. I tried the saved files on a new install, but they still crash, though new saves works fine(also till 1550). I play Korea on 1.03.. Is this a common problem?? I'd really like to play past that year 'cause I got Manchu and Japan annexed:mad:
 
Here is a fix posted by AndrewT in another forum:

I have a fix for your saved games. Open them in any text editor, and look at the line on the first page that says Selectable= . You will see a long list of country tags, with many duplicates. I'm sure the duplicates are causing the crash.

Initially I edited out just the duplicates, painful and slow, but it worked. But by experiment I found that you can delete them all except one and the save game still loads fine. The one I left was my own country NIP (Japan), so that is probably the best choice. I suspect you can leave any one there but I don't have time to try that right now

Same problem here. Playing as China, crashes on 1586.

Removing all the "selectable" countries fixes the CTD problem with selecting the game and loading it, but time does not advance, and there is a number of new graphical glitches. If you for example call up the menu, pressing "return" puts you back into the game, but the menu box doesnt go away.
 
I don't know if this will help, but I've had same problems, what I did was. load a previous game from main screen, when you get to the game screen, go to menu, pick "load", load the same save game of the one you want, I found it will load and run 4 out of 5 times. Sometimes you may have to let it cycle several days or so, then re-save in case you have same problem, if so repeat. I found this will get you thru the time periods where game seems to crash the most. hope if works for you

FYI - don't have this problem with my Age of Merchantilism saved games. I have three, all started w/v1.03. They always load up fine.

Too bad I didn't check here first; I had deleted a lot of saved games and even uninstalled and reinstalled the game :(

Also, I thought this was a known bug that had been corrected. :rolleyes: I am running 1.03.

it's a known bug, but it isn't corrected yet. It will be in 1.04.
 
I had problems loading my Sweden GC game until I edited my save folder--and now it loads without CTD. Whew!:rolleyes:
