I'm trying to install Crusader Kings that I downloaded from the online store and had burned to CD, as the install location is different from the download location. I installed it successfully and patched it up to the most recent beta. Unfortunately, I then had to reformat my harddrive for an unrelated issue. Now, when I go to install it, I copy it from the CD onto a harddrive setup almost exactly in the same way it was before, however during the extraction process of the files (as well as during the install process on a previous attempt) I get an error message telling me the CRC Check has failed and it crashes out of the installer, this is usually during the language named executables and not the Cab files.

Are there any other things I should check prior to trying to download it again and recopying it? I just can't figure out why it worked before but is not working now. I'm forced to use my work internet connection to download, so I'm trying to avoid doing that if possible.

My apologies if this is not the correct forum for this questions, my specs are:

P3 450
40 GB HD
512 MB RAM
20x CD
Win 98SE
DX 9.00
SB Audigy LS
ATI RAEDON 7K

Oh, one other concern, I had had some RAM issues (bad RAM causing strange faults) which I repaired after the reformat. However, I did have on aborted install on the current configuration, could this be causing the issue, and if so, how would I go about addressing that so I'm truly installing from scratch?

Thanks,
KB

One thing you should note is the 1.05 patch that was released a moment ago. It propably won´t solve your problem, but it is something you really should download.

Thanks for the help, I've already set my home PC to begin downloading it, unfortunately, the ~256 MB that the game itself is is too much for my 56k to handle at home, otherwise I would try downloading the full version again!

This definitely seems to be an issue with the downloadable version installation, and primarily, the decompression of the files in the downloadable install executable. Like I mentioned, I had it installed and running with the August beta fine, and was then forced to reformat. During the new install, I had to abort because of hardware issues, which were then resolved. I'm thinking it might be related to a previous incomplete install (aborted because of my hardware (RAM) problems), however, I don't know how to "wipe the slate clean" completely from that aborted install to really start fresh in a new attempt, or if that's even a possible issue. Thank you for all of your help though!

EDIT: Just to save somebody the time of posting the link, I did see the "Manual Uninstall" thread in this forum about how to remove everything manually if the auto-uninstaller fails, but I wasn't sure how that applied to the downloadable version as it never installed properly to begin with. Plus, I was always under the impression that a CRC Check Failure was because the compressed files decompressed version didn't check out with what the files TOC said it should be, so I was thinking there might be another issue with that. Thanks again!

Usually corrupted media.
You would need to download the game again.
That version is not really intended to be installed from CD, I am supprised it worked for you in the first place.
I would say the uninstall instructions were the same for both versions.

Thanks Castellon, I didn't install it directly from CD, I actually copied it from the CD onto the HD and then installed from there, sorry I didn't clarify that. I figured corruption might be the problem, so I'll give it another shot to download. Well, congratulations American taxpayer, I'm about to use up some of your tax money to provide bandwidth to download CK again!!

They can afford it for such a good cause. ;)
